Title says it all, Will the Roman Factions be split into 3 Family's, or will it be one unified republic? I kind of guessed it may be the SPQR due to the Live Action?

United
I have returned
i hope its a united faction but you can play as only a small, very small piece within rome, maybe as super small faction/familly that will eventually take over rome. just gettign rome right from the begining is boring![]()
You should play united but as the Populares gain power at the expense of the Optimates that might trigger an event where your realm goes into civil war and you can choose which side you want to be on. This is the best way imo.
Actually, you could have the republics generals have a popularity scale. If the general has high popularity but low loyalty, you could choose to fight him, or join him in the conquest of rome.
Or at a specific point, you could have your top three generals rise up to attack each other.
This could be done right, just depends which way is the best.
Only way this could possibly happen is if Rome has a Crusader Kings 2 type system, Where dukes/counts serve under a king. Otherwise....Forget it, its a horrible idea.
Getting all of Rome, even that the start point talked about may be too overpowering. Some sort of restrictions either very tight senatorial control or making us essentially a governor for a region might be necessary to ensure we don't just faceroll the whole map from the start.
Im taking a wild guess, but i think it gonna work with Rome starting as a republic, there will be varies family trees/lines within the faction that you control, some conflicting with each other, and some more or less so as each of there titles, positions grow. The best you can do is try to nurture and keep the strongest family line going, while knocking off anyone who seeks to usurp or such, and while regions are split into provinces, i think you will have to give a province to a member of the family, senate or anyone to governor who can build up to be a potential threat and erupt a civil war. So i think it will have a slight CK2 feel to it, not that ive played much of CK2, but more of trying to hold a empire together while you establish it.
They don't need to follow RTW's style with 3 families as in ETW they've been successful in revolutions, civil wars, etc.
It's possible that Rome would be it's own city and we start off as what AgentGB is saying.
As time goes by eventually a general will gain enough popularity to revolt and when that happens we'll have to choose either the republic or become a new empire and go from there to conquer rome.
I would like to have the three Roman families again, or something similar to that system, because having all of Rome under your control from the start could become a logistical nightmare or streamlined to the point that it's not a fun/deep game anymore.
Or what Reiver said about it being too empowering.
