Single player not working

Ok, so I have Medieval 2 total war and kingdoms installed and up to date, and for some reason non of the single player features work on the regular game (Grand campaign, quick battle, etc)
The game doesn't crash, it just goes back to the main menu, it's really weird and annoying!

Does anyone know a cause or fix?

Did you tamper with any of the medieval 2 files? Got any mods installed? Just uninstall m2tw and kingdoms and kingdoms after delete everything that has to doo with meeieval 2 and install again. See what happens.

The issue you're having is called KTM = Kickback to menu. Most probably the error lies in the descr_strat.txt file and you have definitely fiddled with it somehow.

My advice is for a complete re-install, then clear the virtual store folder also, it might have a folder called SEGA, delete that as well if you have windows vista or 7.

It all started when I wanted to install Westeros TW to my laptop, and I'm using Inarus's HBO submod and for that to be compatible with the Enhanced 0.53 mod you have to replace the descr_strat.txt...
although would editing the descr_strat file in the westeros mod folder effect the normal game? because all of the kingdoms expansions + TATW still work fine

No any changes inside a mod folder won't affect the base game or any other mods.

So if you're unable to load vanilla then make sure you haven't replaced the default version of DS in the imperial_campaign folder.

Could I copy the descr_strat from my pc to my laptop and replace the "broken" one? Because that works fine
Otherwise when I next have the time to uninstall and then install again, I will, and hopefully it will work
