    Default Ugh...Getting just..Pwned..

Hello folks, so I decided to try a 1turn Rome campaign, thought it sounded fun and might be easier to save money...
Well, I have 2 stacks of Hannibals army that just took my 2 northern cities, then I have the rebellions that just took Capua and some other cities, with multiple stacks of rebel armies...
All I have is less than a stack of soldiers..I couldnt recruit enough in time after I lost the 1st battle with Hannibal considering the only city able to recruit actual soldiers is Rome. Now a full stack and a half stack are sieging Rome with my less than full stack defending...
How the hell am I or -was- I supposed to fight off so many stacks with such little troops? And this is after I brought my army from Spain over...Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

That's the way it is man. This mod is very hard. It is meant to be very challenging. You can lose within the first 10 turns.

Did you bring your troops back from Macedonia?
Also what level are you playing on?
Also take a look at the Rome player's guide. Part of the key is to kill Hannibal off fairly quickly. Concentration of forces is very important.

...but yes it is challenging and was designed to test very experienced players on H/H. So you can always try on medium campaign or medium battles.

Yes the campaign is the best one I've played in any TW game, because there's a fricking challenge FINALLY.

Hmm, I actually hadnt brought my forces from Greece over. So do you guys defeat hannilbal with that 1st army thats standing there next to him? Because if so, thats nuts...lol He has WAY more troops and is an uber general compared to Varro? I think it is?

Do you guys fill up the rest of that stack with units? Because I always figured that battle was a lose no matter what, but I suppose 0 turn its much easier to replace the losses then 1turn so perhaps you cant lose that army? Or do you lose that army but then merge the troops brought in from Spain with the ones from Greece?

    Thanks!

In play-testing I've now done just what you are attempting 5 times now - and it's gotten harder each time (there will be some nice tweaks in v2.6 I hope). I've been testing on M/M, but there are others who still find it easy it seems.

Effectively - I bring all the forces home that I can to firstly deal with the Rebellion as fast as possible and then deal with the Carthaginians. I have experienced all that you are experiencing and I assure you that it is quite possible.

It's supposed to be a challenge, as indeed it was for the Romans, possibly the greatest in their early history apart from having Roma sacked by the Celts.

First, you do not need to fight that battle. Second, you can win this battle by concentrating on killing Hannibal. Third, in the case that you fail the battle, bring troops from Sicily, Spain and Greece to Italy. They are enough to defeat Hannibal and the upcoming rebellion.

Hey all, thanks for the advice again,

So far, I let hannibal just take Arretium and the other one (Dunno how to spell it =P ) hes just been hangin out there so I decided to quell the rebellion.

With all my troops brought home, I have 2 full stacks, one stack with double chevs and upgraded armor and weapons, that stack just defeated a rebel stack marching twords Rome and is now sieging Capua, my other stack is just sitting in a fort next to Rome making sure Hannibal or any Carthaginian stacks dont march on Rome, and am retraining the troops as I can. I really could use that 2nd stack against the Rebels but I really dont want to leave Rome unguarded as Hannibal could easily take it...So im just gonna hafto make due with the one stack, hopefully it will be enough.

Will let yall know how it goes! =)

Edit: Game freaking crashed right after I got a Heroic victory smashing the stack attacking Cannae or however its spelled....Needless to say Im effing pissed...

That was a mistake, you should have attacked him on the second turn while he was besieging somewhere.

Find a way to beat Hannibal and you get a big bunch of breathing space and time to build up.

I usually send a small force from either Ariminum or Arretium to flush out his ambush before putting together an army that can beat him. Pull your extra troops out of Sicily and Macedonia. Work one of his flanks in the big battle. He puts his Gauls there and they don't like being hit from behind.

Avoid fighting Hannibal at Lake Trasimene on 1st turn if you are having trouble. Lead troops home, retrain them and put some cavalry in as Hannibal's army is far superior. However you shouldn't have trouble to actually lose that battle but kill their general, maybe try using guard mode on your cohorts to lenghten the melee.

The annoying Lake Trasimene is the one from Five Good Emperors, you can do it reasonably good but those darn elephants charge into your battle line and destroy you, velite fire doesn't hurt them.

You should also try moving forces from surrounding cities to reinforce the army beside Hannibal. He will probably pull away and go attack one of your cities, just take your stacks over there and attack him. Even if you lose alot of troops in your first army, your reinforcements should take care of him.

What I always do is beef up my army with men from Rome. End the turn and Hannibal will attack Arretium or Ariminium. I attack him with my army and he has a few cohorts to his rear. I beat him every time.

Once he managed to take the city before I slaughtered him. It was just a matter of time

Actually I believe h/vh is even harder due to a CA bug. Happy Campaigning!
