    Default Rising Sumer-Dawn of War

    Rising Sumer -Dawn of War

Hey folks, today we from the Rising Sumer Team want to make a new beginning and try to elate you for this mod. After a long period of silence, which was caused by the missing of our leader, Odoaker, and the release of some great mods... we decided in order to bring out this mod to make some slight changes. After consulting with Gigantus he recommended us to open a new thread.

We decided to smaller the map in order to concentrate on Sumer, Syria and Egypt. The Indus-Culture and Aratta will be added in following versions.
Now, with opening this new thread we want to take the chance and give you some information’s about the time and the powers of this age, the empires you will rule and against which you will fight, since I don't think many people know much about this age.

Our mod is a special one - it is the earliest possible mod, which actually makes sense.
There isn't much historical sense in making a "Stone Age" Total War, simply because you don't find nearly any clues about their live.
But in our time, the first kingdoms had been established and many great empires fought against each other and enemies from beyond their border. The first armies were send to conquer enemies cities and raid enemy territory –Dawn of War.
And there aren’t many mods which are set before the Romans.

Let's start with the land, which gave this mod its name- Sumer.

First, there is Uruk, city of the legendary hero Gilgamesh and the great walls of Uruk. Gilgamesh is the most famous hero of the Sumerians and his story was still famous in Babylonian and Persian time. The city’s main godess is Ianna, the Ishtar of the Babylonians (greetings to the SoI Mod ).
    Its

“We don’t want to submit ourselves to the house of Kish; we want to crush them with our arms”
    Gilgamesh

The dominant power of our time is the mighty city of Kish in the north. Its priest-king receives presents from ensis (governors) from many cities. But its power begins to shrink and the vassals are gaining power.

For example there is the the city-state of Lagash. Once a vassal to Kish, its citizens are proud and think of independence. Its warriors fight in close rows and there chariots are feared. Their most feared enemy is the neighbouring city of Umma, whose governors try to get hold of the fertile land which lies between the two states. Both cities are ready to fight against each other with all weapons they have.

All world fears the time, but the time fears the pyramids.
    Arabian saying

The second great concentration of power lies on the banks of the Nile.
Here the great Kingdom of Kemet has been established some centuries ago. Its kings, the nesut, which will become known as pharaoh, are proud and call themselves sons of the sun god. Their buildings reach into heaven and their armies march great distances.
There may be enemies like the Libyans, the Nubians and the sand people of the Sinai, but the greatest danger lays in the local governors- they gather power and start to raise there one armies. Maybe not now, but some day a war is probable.

On the edge of this great civilisation, other powers struggle for more influence.

There is Gubla, the biggest harbour on the Mediterranean Sea which profits manly from its trade with timber with Kemet. Its ships sail far and bring back valuable goods.

In central Syria lies the city of Ebla, the white rock. It’s kings are mere representative and the city is ruled by their chancellors. It has a great position between Kemet and Sumer and has good relations to Kish. But there is a big rival to Ebla-
    Mari.

Its greatest enemy is the city of Mari. This city lies on the Euphrates and has adopted many sumerian things. It has a even better strategic positon than Ebla, located at the Buranum or today’s Euphrates. The city has some great archers and has also adopted the chariots.

The state weak at arms- the enemy not driven from the city gates.
    Sumerian saying

This will be the playable factions, but there will be some more factions, which will be there to challenge the player. For example there will be Ur, Umma, Maggan, Elam and maybe the Helladic Culture.
There will be also some AOR-Units like Trojan axe man or Cycladic stone thrower and mercenaries like Nomadic javelin men, Cypriote spear men and Nubian archers.

It will be difficult to raise a great army, because many of your warriors will first consist of milita,
but while conquering your empire you will be able to recruit standing troops and develop their weapons. You will have to, because the enemy won't show you mercy-
    Total War!

Hey, great to see you reshaped the mod. I said that in your old mod thread that you guys should take charge if Odoaker has disappeared. Which you did! I hope we'll see it come to life now after this new organization! Good luck!

One question: why is the DINGIR cuneiform sign in the main menu inversed?

At the moment, there are 12 factions,
of which 7 will be playable.

I'm still working on the egyptian warrior,
who needs now only a little bit of UV-mapping (which i still have to learn ^^ )
But because I'm now in Australia for holiday,
i haven't got that much time and so work will rest a little bit.

And by the way, we have to apologize to all Aussies,
because i think, they can't see our pictures (or at least I can't see them from Australia ).
    We will take care soon.
