    Default Disc drive won't work

    Hi everyone.

For some reason, I can't get my drive to play movies, games, etc. I haven't dropped it or anything, and I can't see anything wrong with the tray at all.

Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong?

This is still a new computer...I'd hate for something to have happened.

When you say your system is new - how new is "new"? What's happening when you put a disc in the drive? What software do you use to play movies/audio/etc.? There are literally dozens of possible reasons and we can't tell from here. You've given us precious little info to go on. More information is needed. Thanks for any help you can throw our way. Good luck!

The reason why I didn't say much is that there is very little I CAN give. It simply wouldn't work, despite the computer saying the drive is fine.

The drive would make all it's usual noises, but nothing happens.

I did, however, find out that the discs will play with other software (Like, my DVD's will play normally). I also got RSII to open by manually doing so (though it was being glitchy, don't know if that's cause I was using BI instead of RTW cause I can't find that disc). It's just autoplay and Media Player that won't work properly.

You say your optical drive is new. Is it a Blu-Ray drive by chance? If so you may need to investigate firmware options for that drive. My memory is fuzzy but I think something like this rolled past the M2 Tech Forum awhile back - updating the firmware solved the problem. I'm pretty sure we discovered that Blu-Ray players did not like CA discs.

What other games/media are you trying to load into that drive? Your answers could help narrow the scope of the problem. Good luck!

Probably the auto-play settings just got messed up. Are you running windows 7? If so just type in auto play in the search box in the start menu, and it will take you to the configuration settings.

That was one of the first things I did. No luck.

I also went through "Computer" to try to make the disc play, but all it did was "open" it.

So the computer can read the discs correct? Its just not auto playing?

Like if you right click then "open"/"explore" on the drive in my computer, does it open up to a list of files etc?

Media Player refuses to play it, but other third party software will.

Game discs refuse to autoplay either. I have to use the shortcuts in order to play, it appears. Not even doubleclicking the icon in Computer works.
