Version Check

Anyone know a way to check if your game is EU, US or Gold version?

There's no way to check in-game or otherwise really. Some of the files are different between releases as far as I can tell but I'd be hard pressed to tell you which ones. It might be more constructive to know where you bought the game from. If you have the discs then it will be easy to tell if it's the Gold edition or not - the Gold discs have all of the legacy installers on them. If Steam then it's Gold but what region version I couldn't say.

Now to the most important questions - Why do you need to know? Are you having patching problems? Is your install not showing the proper patch version in your eyes? Remember that M2's patch system is byzantine to a far degree - you may think you have a problem when you don't. Likewise you may have an actual problem when you think you don't. This game has the most arcane installer that it's no longer funny....

Yeah, the patch did work as there was EU, US, and non-Gold EU and US versions of the patch. I travel a lot so I can never be sure of the place of my purchase. I fixed it by trying every patch version to see which one works. The non-Gold US patch worked. Thanks.

For gold version you won't have to patch M2TW vanilla, only kingdoms patch v1.5 is required. One can go in the options menu and see what's the version of your M2TW vanilla base game, if it's gold then it will show v1.03 already without actually installing this update, after v1.02.
