    Default Loyalty Patch testing.

    Hello,

I need a few people that Play SPQR to test out a new loyalty patch I have been working on for SPQR. what it does is add loyalty to the game where your character could revolt IF they get too low of loyalty.

I only need people to apply who will really test this patch meaning playing a campaign game and watching the effects of loyalty on the characters.

This patch only adds loyalty for the romans.

Please post here if your interested in testing?

I'm game to test for you Lt, do you want us to just keep track of the generals in a spreadsheet and see when and if certian ones revolt and why? Just keep me informed. I will stop my current campaing to test this for you.

Would this add civil wars like in BI or would revolting units/towns just become rebel?

Well in 1.5 you can have dead factions come back, so the towns would revert to rebel, but the Generals would turn into Scipii. Mainly what happens is if the general revolts he takes the legion with him. You really dont have to worry about him Attacking you, its more a less a shock if you lose a couple legions on the rhine, plus the fact they are traitors and if in house rules they would have to be killed even if they dont attack. The reason they dont attack in Scipii is dead techically. The only way around that would be to have some remote Island made were scipii lives, then Cities would revolt to Scipii, the problem is that because of the 3 family thing revolt of cities could happen early which would casuse a civial war way to early. I like the Idea of not being able to trust some of your generals.

You also have the issue that the MORE your general climbs the ladder the more likely he is of treason.

PM me if you want me to give you the link for testing. I think the new feature adds to the game more .

Lt what will happen to the legion if the general does rebel, will we have to go to battle against the entire legion or will some of it disappear? Is this scripted a certian way? I think this will be a great addition to the mod, makes you more weary of who you can trust just like in ancient Rome.

Well the General and ALL the men under him become Scipii's but since scipii is dead they just sit there and dont attack, but you still LOSE and entire legion. I would probably have them attack and have cities revolt IF I use BI.exe which means the player would need BI.

That sound like a great idea LT, since most already have BI I do not see why no one would play on the BI engine. We could always run a poll and see what others think.

Just out of curiosity, will you add vices and virtues that increase or decrease loyalty? Would we have to start a new game to play with loyalty?

And another thing: Please don't make disloyal generals revolt too easily. Sure, some would probably enjoy a challenging game with revolts, but if you're like me, you would probably get frustrated quite easily when half your empire revolts after you've spent ages building it up (I've played since 6.0 came out, think it was this winter, and I've only reached 189bc!) Yeah, I know there was a western and eastern roman empire, but this is a game! It's supposed to be fun!
My point is, the border between enjoyment and frustration can be quite delicate.

    Just my 2 denarii.

I think it would be better than BI's but just keep your people happy. ;-) And yes they traits are adjusted, even more so than BI to add or remove loyalty, so when you use one general all the time you risk the chance of him thinking too much of himself and not being loyal, or if he has bad traits or the senate likes him too much, but if he is a heir or leader then his loyalty is always good, but switching heirs could make the former heir not too happy. lol

would it work if i use it on one of my saved games?

No because it requires a fresh campaign because of the map. it would work, just not correctly.

    And no it isnt optional.

    LT,
Glad to hear you are still adding improvements after delivering such a polished finished product as 6.1 has been.

Loyalty was one of those elements of MTW that I really missed in RTW. Nothing like a rebellion or two to add some extra challenge to managment of generals.

I don't see how you'd be able to add titles or similar sure-fire ways to increase loyalty BUT I was thinking of the follwing:
If the player could build a 1-turn building that, when completed, would give a loyalty bonus and maybe other bonuses with title to the govenor in the province when completed, and a further trait and massive disloyalty effect for that general if the building is destroyed (and obviously rebuilt to name a different general as governor with title/ loyalty and other bonuses).

Anyway, just trying to help. Looking foward to playing!

BI's style of Loyalty is pretty good. How it works is all characters start with loyalty and then if they are honest or certain good traits they grow in loyalty, if disloyal traits or other political advancements they lose loyalty.

What I did is take the triggers for Loyalty starters which is Marriage, Adoptions, Coming to Age, and Recruitment of Generals and said NO not 100% but 80% chance of being loyal. So this means you may have a family member that isnt that loyal or a general from the start. They can become loyal after a while through traits or could lose loyalty.

I also increased the Number of Traits that cause Loss and Gain of Loyalty, so the super commanders and politicians are usually LESS loyal and could turn after they grow alot. This will limit the Player with the Super Generals with all traits and stars, because bt the time the get that good they just may become a Rome Rebel!

Also you have to watch your Provinces, because if they revolt they NO longer revolt to Rebels but to Roman Rebels, which are the scipii type. This is NOT good and I wouldnt use as a Buffer! Reason is you are at War with Roman Rebels from the start, so they will attack you eventually. Over all I like the experience, but still need some testers to be sure, as I like to have them study during gameplay the loyalty of the characters over time.
