Crashing upon entering battle

I have the steam version of Shogun 2, and none of the DLC. It has worked for me in the past, but when I played for the first time in several months a couple of days ago, it crashed whenever I attempted to begin a battle, whether it was campaign, historical, or custom. I have not tried a naval battle, but this does occur for both field and siege battles.

First I verified the game cache's integrity, but that did not change anything. I then tried deleting and then redownloading the game, but it has not made a difference. If anyone could help me with this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone check this forum still? It seems pretty inactive, but I could really use some help with this issue, as it's rendered my game unplayable.

Is this a known issue? It seems pretty major, and it's kind of irritating that nobody seems to be checking this forum. Not that it's their responsibility, but it really is a crippling bug and I can't find a way around it.

So still no responses? Is this something that people were already aware of? I literally cannot play the game that I paid 50$ for, regardless of how many times I reinstall or check the files. Nothing makes a difference.
