The Prince A Machiavellian Medieval Political Simulator
You start the game as a Prince, you can move your character freely, and you can command nearby units, and manage cities you are in, (given that your father (the king) is not currently occupying said city.)
What will you do with your noble status and limited power? Will you stay loyal to King and Country fight battles, become a great commander, and then take over power when your father passes away? OR will you take power from him before his time?
Becoming King You could just wait for your father to pass away of natural causes or in a battle. Or you could secretly build up an army then plunge your country into civil war as you try to take the throne.
Or you could have your father assassinated. Of course no ordinary assassin can kill a King, you will have to hire an assassin and train him up. Send him to the Middle East to practice his skills on Caliphs. OR if you do not feel loyal to the Catholic religion, nor your Country you could have your assassin hone his skills on countryside Priest.
Say if you have an older brother who is in line to the throne after your father; you will of course have to take care of him as well. A Prince Brother, will surely be a fine testing ground for your assassin to see if he is prepared to take out your Father. Of course if your Father is old you could just kill your older brother, and wait for the King to pass, if you don’t want to raise suspicions.
Once you are King you will be able to control all military and cities as normal. BUT… other challenges wait.
Ensuring an heir You must have a son to pass on your lineage. If you have a daughter who marries a man who becomes King after you die, your paternal line dies with you, and the game ends. So having a son is paramount to ensure your game continues beyond yourself.
Ensuring Loyalty Did your daughter marry a man who is not loyal to you? Are you concerned he will have you assassinated, because he is disloyal? Assassinate him before he gets to you, or your son who is your heir.
Becoming Pope Are your ambitions to big for a single country? Do you instead seek to influence all of Western Europe, and lead the Papal army? Well then becoming the Pope is the path you should take. First train your Prince as a Priest in a town with a monastery. A Priest with royal blood should easily rise up through the ranks of the Church. However, you could ensure Cardinal status by winning favor in the Church. Spreading Catholicism to the Muslims in the Mid East or the Greek Orthodoxy states in Eastern Europe will help you earn favor with the church. Of course becoming a Cardinal is just one of the many steps to being elected Pope. You could simply rely on your great achievements and royal blood to be elected Pope, but assassinating a more popular Cardinal could ensure your election.
