    Default China Setting RPG Proposal

    Hello TWC Community,

Through much of my time here, I have been wondering what it would be like to have an Asian setting rpg. For a little window into the real life me, I am a history major and Asian studies minor. The history of Asia especially China, Japan, Korea and Mongolia has fascinated my mind for many years now. I have read Romance of the Three Kingdoms numerous times...watched movies like Red Cliff and criticized its inaccuracy in history (though it was a fantastic movie!). I have read many articles on various dynasties and have actually gotten to the point where I remember all the major dynasties...I am such a book worm I will die among my books probably.

So I began to wonder...what would it be like to have an rpg set within China? Thus I ask you, fellow moderators, writers and members of the TWC Community, which of these settings would you like to see on the forum?

    1. Warring States: One of two popular periods. The setting would be in one of the kingdoms (most likely Qin) and would fight to unite the land.
    2. Late Han Dynasty/Three Kingdoms: Another popular period involving Romance of the Three Kingdoms and many heroes and villains of the time period. This setting can go two ways: Han Dynasty would involve the height of the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the ascension of a new Emperor...perhaps your character helps in rebuilding the Han or seeks to control the Emperor for your own plans. The Three Kingdoms would be that of the three would be voted as the setting and the goal would be to re-unite the Han or build a new dynasty.
    3. Ming Dynasty: a pivotal dynasty of the pre-modern world and the last dynasty to be ruled by the ethnic Han Chinese. Most probable setting will involve reformations, contact from the West and retaking ancient Chinese provinces since the days of the Han.
    4. Qing Dynasty: Most likely setting will most likely happen during the mid to late Qing when Western influence is increasing and staggering. The Emperors are not as powerful nor authoritative to hold the Great Qing Empire together. Central authority is crumbling and the people are greatly upset. Your goal is to either ensure a smooth transition for Westernization or combat the Western nations to ensure traditional Confucian rule and Mandate of Heaven.

These settings can change over time and through discussion. These are general ideas, no specifics will be given till a setting is chosen.
Also allowed multiple choice for those who wish to give multiple votes on their favored settings.

So bring forth your votes and speak your words! Give suggestions to my idea and I will listen. Maybe you have a suggestion for another setting involving these time periods...well speak it for I would like to hear it I have always wanted to see an Asian rpg on this forum and I am ready to bring it to you. If you are interested in being a part of the development team, just pm me and ask. I will gladly accept all the help any can offer.

    Thank you,
    Lucius Malfoy

Well written, though I am sorry to say TWC may be a hard place for such a setting. Just a feeling. IT seems interesting though. It is a thing that have interested me too once, so many great inventions and the huge effects it had in their entire society, The Eunuchs and the Uhh I don't remember the name, the palace where the emperor were held.. Well never-mind. The many wars and stuff, All very interesting.

I loved Sun's Feudal Japan RPG many moons ago; I'd definitely make time to play it was that. However; in terms of Chinese history one of the first two options would be more intriguing since I know alot more about those periods.

My next idea, if this failed, was to involve Japan's history. Possibly one of the Shogunates, Boshin Civil War or Sengoku era

I also forgot to mention this...these Chinese setting rpgs would be very character oriented. Each character would have an impact on history, whether their role was small or large. Perhaps by the end of his days, your character is a proud warrior, undefeated in combat and feared by many. Your liege petitions the Emperor for a posthumous title (like Marquis of Zhao) in honor of your efforts.

Perhaps your character has a pro-Han attitude and fights to rebuild the Dynasty that gave fruit and coin to your family for generations. Maybe this character is anti-Han...you become one of many warlords that seek to control the empire or crave out your own piece of the pie...building a base for future conquests...and perhaps a future dynasty.

Another scenario, the Emperor is dying and has three sons all of exception talent...however, a group of you may support the second heir to power. While others support the other two. The first heir takes the throne...maybe you instigate a civil war in order to put the heir you favored upon the throne.

There will also be fictional and historical-like events that may help your character become stronger. For instance: a mystic arrives at your house with strange but ancient book. He vanishes in a wisp of smoke upon you taking it. After delving into its pages, you learn of the changes in seasons and time. +5 intelligence.

Or! A mighty warrior challenges to you to a duel. He has powerful looking weapon in possession, one that would suit well for you. Defeating him gains this mighty weapon (+2 - +4 in War) and adds fame to your abilities.

Though sadly the settings above would go well with Han Dynasty/Three Kingdoms/Warring States. I will have to think up examples for Ming and Qing

Every character will have a role what happens and it could change the course of history. Becoming a well-known minister, a powerful warlord, a warrior of the lands, a scholar of great genius and ability. Every person gets their shot at immortality within history.
There will be several paths to follow with traits to add points to, similar to BP.

Make a RPG right after the Boshin war with Japan and I would certainly play.

The first two would probably be best, although a Qing RPG would certainly be interesting.
