Hi all! I'm just reading about Hittities and wondering if there is any epic war film for the period before or during that age? Anything before 300 is good! (Troy excluded)

i don t think there are even books about the hitittes.Romancised books I mean.If you know any please do tell
I'm reading Osprey's book. Maybe it's covered in Cambridge history series too?
I can't imagine a movie about the Hittites ever being made.
Things I trust more than American conservatives:
Drinks from Bill Cosby, Flint Michigan tap water, Plane rides from Al Qaeda, Anything on the menu at Chipotle, Medical procedures from Mengele
I guess Hittites aren't " cool " or " hip " among the youth these days .
What about early Egypt or Assyria, Babylon?
Ben Hur
It all starts with Ben Hur. Trust me, you won't be dissapointed. But other than Ben Hur there really aren't all that many films dealing with Ancient battles or war that aren't lost in the romantisism or over stylised.
The Eagle (recent, mediocre acting, pretty good actions scenes.), Alexander (Colin farrel sucks but the battles are impressive), For China, Red Cliffs is amazing if you can get the uncut version.
There really aren't that many films dealing with the epic war scene in the period your looking for unfortunatly.
Patronized by the mighty Heinz Guderian
I've only been able to see Alexander (fell asleep), Troy (disliked), and 300 (stopped watching in the middle because of how stupid it was, burst out laughing when one of Leonidas's insults toward the Athenians was "boy lovers").
Bible movies will probavly feature those, but it will be bible centric obviously
TV shows are good too: I, Claudius and HBO's Rome are so epic you'll have to buy new pants.
In movies the best is Gladiator (I'll fight you in the street if you disagree), Alexander sucks a donkey appendage, but it has epic moments and I know a few of the actors. Troy is fun, cheesy and pretty cool. I think centurion is better than Eagle, but they're both pretty good. Ben Hur is ok, I think, I havn't watched it in decades so I can't really comment. Cleopatra is damn good if you can get over the fact that it looks like it was recorded a few years after the actual events. The passion of the christ is one of the worst movies in history, it's not even a good snuff film, it's just bad, even Caligula (the one with Malcolm McDowell) was better and that was literally a porno. The last legion sucks (Colin firth). Red Cliff is awesome, but there's a lot of talking, with subtitles, that's ok because of the action scenes. Who doesn't like 300? It's so awesome. You'd have to be gay not to like that movie........ wait........hmm.
Oh and also wrath of the titans sucks unless you're high and immortals is better, but not very good.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are so certain of themselves, but wiser people are full of doubts.

Every Rome movie i watched ( all of them named in above posts ) is a failure and not worth watching .
Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans, Immortals... yeah, it's really not a good genre at the moment
What about 300?

Well, it is as accurate as their artwork was at the time.
No, Homer, Achilles and Ajax did not fight out in the open. They and a few hundred of their best friends stood together while holding pointy sticks out and then walked forward in a synchronized manner into the Trojans who were doing the same thing.
I am Sam, Sam I am. Do you like green eggs and ham?
So I see you have not read the Iliad...No, Homer, Achilles and Ajax did not fight out in the open

'One day when I fly with my hands - up down the sky, like a bird'
But if the cause be not good, the king himself hath a heavy reckoning to make, when all those legs and arms and heads, chopped off in battle, shall join together at the latter day and cry all 'We died at such a place; some swearing, some crying for surgeon, some upon their wives left poor behind them, some upon the debts they owe, some upon their children rawly left.
Hyperides of Athens: We know, replied he, that Antipater is good, but we (the Demos of Athens) have no need of a master at present, even a good one.
Well there is always the movie 10,000 B.C. Very epic and historically accurate movie. Definitely worth the watch.
