    Default Question about shields

    I wonder why some shields like Roman early scutum, Celtic shields, thureos,... had spine bosses but not with vertical grips. However I saw some illustrations of them having vertical grips (for example soldiers hold their javelins vertically in their shield hands).
    So what grips did they really have?

    Those shields used horizontal grips. Images of those grips exist in ilustrations and reliefs.

    It's also about the animations / hand positions and how they work...animations would have had to have been redone completely
