The turning point of the battle occurred when the Scythed chariots led by Archelaus dived into Nicomedes army. According to Appian the scythe chariots caused wounds of such a hideous nature that they caused fear and confusion among Nicomede’s army. An excerpt from the translated history that Appian wrote states "At the Battle of the Amnias River (89 BC), a victory that helped Mithridates VI wrest Asia Minor away from Rome, scythe-bearing chariots charged into Rome's Bithynian allies, "cutting some of them in two, and tearing others to pieces." Even though Archelaus and Neoptolemus had the clear advantage the battle did not end until Neoptlemus basically lost his entire army.

Scythed Chariots were always a bit dodgy. They either devastated the enemy or got destroyed in their first charge.

Chariots were outdated at the time, and very vulnerable to missiles. Like elephants, they could be very successful at times, but they certainly weren't dominant.

horsemen were vulnerable to missiles even armoured knights (see; Battle of Nicopolis) but this doesn't mean horsemen have to 1 defence point, right? well, Pontians won many battle with chariots and I hope CA make better chariots.

Chariots werent outdated. The quote givin about Mithridates was during Sulla which is well within the timeframe of the game, givin the pictures for the seige of Carthage that happened 100 years prior

Use of chariots were indeed an older tactic. Perhaps not outdated. Surely after Mithradates VI nobody really used them at all in any significant way.

In general worldwide. I didn't know when the Chinese stop to use them, but i beleave it was later. Koreans too and they had more advanced battletechniques and inventions than Europe at this time.

In my eyes they were not outdatet, just their use was limited against enemies which know to fight against them. It was the same with the phalanx system or roman legions.

No , Korea was not that much advanced compared to western cultures at this time as it wasn't even an unified country yet and mostly was a protothreekingdom split into several minor tribal powers.
Greek scientific advancements are not even comparable to the asiatic ones of the time , were quite more foward , as for warfare , roman army was still more advanced ... Chariots are outdated as could be easily put out of combat and actually were only successfull versus mass of disorganized troops with open ranks , also they needed a flat large plain to be any effective ...

Yes an accurate Pontus would be a BLAST to play! I hope there are ways in R2 to perform the espionage feats that Mithradates was able to accomplish with his propaganda campaigns and widespread massacres of Roman citizenry..

But could still be effective depending on terrain and composition/training of the opposing army. Just that most experienced generals if anticipating chariots could make preparations negating most of chariots value but there were plenty of amateur generals or experienced generals that did not know to expect chariots.

I actually quite liked the other faction legionaries of Pontus and Nummidia as they reminded me of all the variations of the AK series of weapons. Imitation legionaries, almost as good as the real thing, only slightly more expensive

There is a reason why Romans didn't use Chariots or the like ... they were outdated and useless by the time of the roman age....
Tough I agree on giving them to Pontus if they historically used still in the period .
