    Default Is this true?

Yeah, and it'll apparently feature kewl stuff like combo-attacks, elephant mounted cannons, and customisable good and evil characters...
Someone posted that on the paradox interactive (Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis) forums about M2TW. If that is true CA is clearly insane. Others replied acting as if it were common knowledge, so i dont think he was being sarcastic.

I refuse to believe that CA went of the deep end that bad.

Combo attacks.... Not entirely.... its not like street fighter or anything like that, its just that instead of 2 guys aimlessly hacking at mid air they will block and parry eachothers attacks and when one looses he gets a sword to the gut or through his face etc....

Elephant cannons.... i seem to recall them being a unit.... RTW had flaming pigs for gods sake... and i never ever actualy saw them ingame (nobody i fought used them).... so i wouldnt go running for the hills screaming fantasy total war just yet.

    Good and evil characters? no.

Character traits will be the same as in MTW and RTW... some are "good" and some "bad".... its not like your gonna have the english king with a halo and wings and the german prine with pointy horns and a large pitch fork..

Well combo isn't really a combo.
It is like in RTW with the block-thrust-dodge-slash animation only according to CA it will make more sense and look more real for example, a soldier will use his shield when he is suppose to.
Nothing new, just improved(according to CA).
The elephants will have smaller cannons that you strap on to the basket which was used a few times in history even tho I can't remember if it was a good result but it did happen.
And the good/evil has already been answered.

As mentioned, when they say combo they mean combination, as in two oponents wont just stand there playing one random animaion after another, their attacks will be linked and much more fluid. Dont think of it in the arcadey sense, its just a reference to the improved fluidity and motion capture in the animations.

Customisable good and evil characters is reference to the new traits they have, which are imported directly from MTW1, chvialry and dread i think they are - again i dont think this is a big deal but easy to take the wrong way. I wouldnt expect the game to end up like lord of the rings or something, for example. its just like influence and such.

As for the elephants.. well its not completely unhistorical but not really appropriate for the medieval period i suppose

Yes, they will all feature in MTW2, but as God said, good and evil characters is probably just an exaggeration of the new trait system.

Well, there already were "good" and "evil" characters in both MTW and RTW already, right? all you had to do was roleplay a bit...that prince of yours with near max dread and the butcher trait would be seen as "evil" right? My guess is that this is just an extension of that kinda stuff.

I've noticed time and time again that before a game is released, there are a lot of exaggerations and embeleshments thrown about, even from the mouths of developers themselves. Understandably, they want to hype the game, but I wouldnt read too much into this stuff and build it up in your head, chances are it wont be as you imagine it.

Whats more frightening than an armored war elephant charging at you with a manned cannon mounted on its back firing directly at you?

A charging armoured elephant with a laser pulse cannon mounted on its back, firing at you?

Nah a cannon is more scary since a laser will do a quick clean death while the cannon will rip your arms and legs off possibly causing you to die by bleeding to death slowly.

Yeah, and it'll apparently feature kewl stuff like realistic fighting, a few FUN!! units thrown in for the kiddies, and characters that develop personality...
CA saying the units do combos, well that's probally just them targetting the 12yo. They could have just marketed it as 'realistic' fighting but that probally wouldn't capture the kiddie attention. Same goes for the 'unrealistic although they did exist super cool units'.

How can something that existed be unrealistic?

I can see your point, but if its in the history books its fair game.

Err, when were there elephant mounted cannons ?

But then again when did the germans use Screaming Maidens or whatever they were called.

They jsut better be extremely rare and expensive, lol, but I guess thats something to mod.

Also something to mod, Armoured war elephants with pulse cannons on their backs, that shoot plasma with live bee's inside, so whatever the plasma doesnt cook, the bee's will sting.

That's why I said 'realistic' and not just realistic. All the 'fantasy' units actually existed as far as I'm aware of, maybe not the way CA presents them or not common enough to warrant representation (ie unrealistic since we're dealing with the more common troops). Not that it really matters since they can be modded out of the game. People have got to remember this is just a game.

I am not too worried about this. Let them have their usual one or two fantasy units if they like. When did I ever play Vanilla Rome?
From the pride and arrogance of the Romans nothing is sacred. But the vindictive gods are now at hand. On this spot we must either conquer, or die with glory (Boudiccas Speech, Tacitus, Annals, XIV, 35)

laser cant kill you unless you concentrate the beam at you for a very, very long time.

Umm... wouldn't cannons frighten the elephants?

So imagine if you put one on its back right behind the ears...
