    Default Performance Issues

Is there a performance guide to this mod? I can play all the other total wars fine but apparently I can't play Rome with this mod without it lagging up a storm.

    My specs:

    Windows 7 64 bit
    ATI Radeon HD 5870
    6 gigs of 1066 mhz ddr3 ram
    17 920 processor

I'm pretty sure I actually had the same problem with this mod in the past and changed something to make it run good. Unfortunately, I can't figure out what the hell I did. I've tried running in XP mode, taking off AA, screwing around with the CCC, enabling 2+ gigs of ram for Rome, and changing the system swap file memory. (Suggested in the sticky)

What are some things that generally make this mod or Rome Total War buckle? I desperately want to play this mod and I know I can but I just can't stand to play it when it's running below 20 frames.

Thanks in advanced for any replies and I'm sorry if this is a rather stupid thread. I really envy how awesome this mod is and simply want to play it.

Do you have problems on the campaign map or on the battle map or both?

    Just the battle map.

Perhaps a stupid inquiry, but are there any upgrades to the engine in the expansions? What if I upgraded to Alexander?

Well Other than the fact that the textures are larger and are better and that models are high res as well as the better environment there's no other stuff that can make it buckle besides those.

1 - Apart from making sure AA and Bloom is off (plus leaving the vegetation settings to normal on the launcher) - try the Auto Detect settings in the game's graphics options and start from there, trying incremental tweaks up or down to see what the effects are.

2 - Is that an Intel I7 processor? If so then 2.66GHz 'true' should just be enough with the other components.

The settings I use on a much older machine to get it running acceptably are in #2 here:

I've never heard of performance improvements. If there are some, I doubt they are going to be huge.
But using BI or Alex instead of RTW if you can is not a bad idea.

The greatest killer in term of graphics is the vegetation. Try to adjust it both in the launcher, and in the RTW settings to see what is better.

Also, if you use the highest settings for units, there won't be any sprites used, which can be quite deadly too.
    Under the patronage of apple.
