    Default system specs

I am very excited about total war Rome 2. But what will the system specs be, will they be same as total war shogun 2 or will they be a lot higher. What do you guys think?

    About the system specs.

They say lower performance computer will be able to run it better, but the graphics will be better.

Essentially it will be the graphics engine that will be getting the big change - not the required specs to run the game.

It does no pc developer any good to demand that players have a better than mid-level pc in order to play it well. Realistically there is a big difference between casual gamers and pc enthusiasts. You don't need a venn diagram to know that those that fall into both categories are actually a small percentage of the people who play total war games.

Laptops are another consideration. They are exponentially more expensive in ratio to specs and they can also be one of the cheapest ways to get into gaming (albeit sub-par) anyone notice how many people use their laptops to play the game?

The new Intel 4000 series is probably the lowest entry that they will strive for as it will be the most common gpu found in most laptops at time of release, as anything with more grunt will be too expensive for the casual gamer.

The only thing I'm not sure about is whether they will go for optimisation with four core gaming... or more than 3 ghz.... but it still won't mean that the layman can't enjoy the game on something less powerful.

That said, I've set aside two grand for my next pc.

I think it is way to early to talk about specs....it is still about 18 months from release
And it was said they try to not make it heavier than SII.

I'm guessing the same minimum requirements, but higher recommended/the stuff you need to max it out.

I think I am going to set this game as my date for upgrade. Currently I can run Shogun 2 on medium-lowhigh settings. TW games always seem to push a little ahead of the mainstream (around £1000) gaming rigs so it seems like a good idea.

By that I would expect for it to run smoothly in all its glory we would basically need a top notch rig. Minimally probably 1st gen i5/i7/HD 6950/4GB RAM ish.

    $2000 USD is mainstream?

In the US, $2000 USD will get you a top notch gaming computer with the highest quality and performing specifications.

Budget computer would be around $400
    Mainstream would be more $600-$800

+1. I don't really care about improving textures and that kind of thing for the moment, it looks nice, and most of my time i spend it on eagle vision so....what i would like its more troops, bigger maps, best effects and physics.

Yes - exactly! Shogun 2 runs 'OK' on my system, but if all four of my cores were being used, I'm sure it would be much better!

As excited as I am for Rome II, I am a bit worried for myself. More specifically, for my computer. I have a three-year old laptop that runs Napoleon on medium graphics, just. Now, I was already planning on buying a new machine, but the details of the game (the sheer size and detail of locations, armies, etc.) has got me wondering what kind of specs I would need. I am not too savvy on such things, so if anyone could give me some tips, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Umm, I would get something that is able to play Shogun on Maxed and have power left over, or if you can wait until they release specs before buying a new machine.

Dude, to max out Shogun 2 with full AA, you need like two 680's. That's a lot of money.

TW games always push hardware. From what I've noticed, for smooth gameplay regardless of fidelity, it's good to have a high end processor.

I'm sure once Demos are out, and the specs have been given that quite a few "recommendations" for the specs will be out, or one could always just ask the experts on it

I'm personally waiting, keeping some funds at handy for getting myself a new comp, this one was topnotch back some 7 years ago, and can still run ETW, NTW and S2 with medium-high specs... The processor is the main issue that'll require a new funding, and I don't expect R2 to demand less of ones computer than any previous games... So yeah, I guess a lot of fans will be visiting the stores for upgraded hardware!
I want to be able to witness this potentially masterpiece in its full glory, be enthralled by the fighting in the streets or the hills, zoom in and use the "3rd person" view to its fullest extend.

Also, a note, IF the screens are truely from In Game, then this game will surely be a beast to run smoothly (especially if there's a "speed-up" option implented.)

You better should go to the basement for these things. Btw. If I were you I'd save up some money and buy a custom desktop next year.
