Default The New Laptop & MTW2

thoughts about mtw2 and these specs? Or experiences? I definitely know I will be getting this and I'm curious about the compatibility with mtw2. if it doesn't work well, I have skyrim and the witcher 2 ready to rumble.

The Medieval 2 Total War Technical Help forum is the fourth line down from the top of the screen in this forum. There is a sticky devoted to new computer recommendations at http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=107263 A friend of mine has a relatively new computer with 8 Gb RAM and 64 bit Windows 7 and M2TW runs fine on it.

You should be able to run MIITW at the highest settings with that hardware- my desktop is relatively low powered,

( core i3-530, 4Gb ddr3 RAM, no graphics processor or SSD) yet it runs the game smoothly at high settings and large unit sizes using the processor's integrated graphics.

The problem is an factory overclocked i7-3920XM may be too good for an older game like MTW2. Can MTW2 multi-thread and take full advantage of that many processors?? From what I hear in RTW only has single core capability but MTW2 can take advantage of dual-core. So my real question is do I have to many for it?

@duncan III do you know if mtw2 is taking advantage all your processor or just two cores? If you or anyone else could tell me that, it would solve my dilemma.

last i heard MTW2 does NOT use dual core, and sits entirely on one core ... Empire is the first total war game to use dual core!

hmm, I can say for my dual core (upgraded) dell d820 there is a 10-25 percent increase in performance compared to using one core. I've been using that poor laptop for a long, long time! hence me buying a new one.

    interesting information though.

You might get a slight increase in performance because your laptop uses the second core for other backup processes, freeing more on your one core to dedicate to MTW2?

Fine the lok to performance that works for you. The game will bottleneck on the i7 if you get too carried away.
