....this is great news, although I suspect that it'll take a while before R2TW comes out and even then there are likely to be serious issues in terms of gameplay and realism that will take a good few months / year or so to improve on....so RS2 still has a bit of life left in it!

It´s interesting news, but I don´t think that such great mods as RS II for example will lose their fans and they have a lot of life before them. They deserve big attention and gratitude from players.
Your not the first to start a topic on it here
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...382249&page=40 theres the discussion on it.
i rekon it will be unmodable , story driven and non historical ... i hope i am proved wrong...... im more excited about eb 2 and rs 2.6
I have a feeling that R2 will have you controlled a character and let him climb up the political ladder in Rome.
I agree with this. Everyone said Rome would be forgotten when Medieval 2 was released, but how wrong were they? After all, we still see topics popping up every now and then asking why modders haven't left Rome for the supposedly "better" Medieval 2. I'd imagine there were people who made the same claim when Empire, Napoleon, and S2 were released, yet Rome is still going strong and has arguably seen its best mods, such as RSII and RTR VII, released in the "shadow" of the newer titles.
And even if R2 turns out to be moddable, it's going to take time for the modding community to learn what makes it tick. Add to that the fact that mods don't spring up overnight. RSII took somewhere around 2.5 years to build, IIRC. Hegemonia was stuck in development hell for about 7 years before finally reaching beta. And EB2 began development when M2 was the new kid on the block, has seen the release of three new TW titles, and still has yet to see a beta release (no offense to the EB team---I know you're all very dedicated to the project and that EB2, when released, will be better than EB1 in every way).
In short, yes, Rome still has a lot of life in it and I think all the great mods made for it will still see a lot of traffic even after R2's release. Possibly years after.
I'm not interested in R2. S2TW ruined it for me due to lack of mod support and Steam. Aside from the original Shogun, all other TW games I've played and enjoyed have been mods.
I'll stick w/ the RTW/M2TW titles, thank you.
I dont get it why are most of you guys not excited, i mean RS 2 willalways have a place on my pc and heartbut still a sequel to the game we all waited for almost 8 years!!!!
Am I wrong, or they announced that we will see again the 'Families'?????!!!!!AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGG!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!! PLEEEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEEE!! NO, The
familis again not!!!! please!!!!!!!
DVK, Jbbon, someone important! Please tell them that people hate the 'families', the families are wrong! It is even an immoral feature, even the 'pope' said that he is against the use of the war between families by CA! Obama said it could be considered a crime against human race! No the families again not!!!! Please CA!
It is not Mafia II it is Rome II! Stop the war between Mafia families please! You should build a Roman historical game, not a Mafia game!
Four Roman factions again? No, I do not want to believe this!

Maybe a breakthrough idea but not historical whatsoever, since the Romans did not have a feudalistic system where families compete for as much land as possible. Also unlike Mongols they did not divide their empire into three or four factions and each one expanded to one direction. Instead they were united and fight one enemy at one time.
Having multiple Roman factions limits your options as well. You can only go into one direction all the time until your can finally declare war with the senate.
