    Default Imperial/Shogunate Infantry upgrades...

So I have a question for u all. I understand these line infantry have breech loaders but Im trying to decide if there is any value in upgrading these guys reasonably.

I probably am going to have one or two level nines extended range but are they worth bringing in bulk? For example bringing two or three with a couple into reload, as part of a line core.

What do my Total Warrior friends think!?

Luck, terrain and whatever play just too big part. Sometimes one unit of torts has 300 kills and marines have 30. My philosophy= 2-3 of extended range units (lvl9 BB, lvl9 WB, lvl 5 marine /in some combo) and 3-4 normal line inf (WB) /5 units altogether. Some high level players for example take 4 torts and one marine /put all other in powerful cav. Some wide maps may require up to 7 line inf, others narrow maps (daitsetzuan, tranquill streams) I take 3-4 better quality ones.

I m not really interested in army builds according to maps or for any other reason Thorien, ty for ur opinion. I'm asking if Imp infantry is worth upgrading reasonably, such as 2 into reload or any other combo, being that they are similar in comparison to bb's.

The breech loading rifle has to make some sort of difference I would think.

Supposedly they should shoot somewhat faster. According to my tests, upgraded BB will kill off vanilla imperials that cost the same (link) /my point is that unit with morale of 8 is not worth investing in too much. If you want around 1k worth line inf, take vermilions, good shooters, reliable, increase morale of neighboring troops. Definitely worth it, imho, although max non ranged line I'll take is WB.

Would u mind posting the stats of a vermilion vs black bears. I truly would be thankful Im on shift right now with no access to stats.

    Verm / BB
    morale 12/8
    att 8/6
    def 6/4
    charge 20/15
    armor 2/2
    rng 125/125
    rld 40/45
    accu 50/50
    ammo 7/7

So essentially they are BB with better morale, melle and aura ; )

Thanks man. Does the aura just give one morale?? Also what gun do they use?

Best approach I have seen so far, is Sherl's composition - he takes one Vermillion for each two bears and place it between them. This allows him to get all line covered by aura.

Vermi is muzzle load and Imp/Sho is muzzle load too

Only elite units are breech load

Actually the Imp/Shog Inf is breech-load in projectile-type and muzzle-load in animation type, which has some interesting implications on how the reload skill affects the units actual reload time.

Which are more cost effective between BB's with 2 reload and the Imp/Shog inf, in your opinion?

Yes which is somewhat strange naming . The rifle has limitation of a muzzle load and itself has nothing to a breech loader. As for projectile type ID, it only lower base reload

Only with elite line inf which start with kihetai is it becoming breech load and it has different limitation

They are fairly similar in effectiveness to be honest. Black Bears are a bit more accurate, while Imperial Inf shoot a bit faster. Both shoot fast enough to beat any other line if they get the first volley. I'd personally favour the Imp/Shog inf for the sole reason that you don't need veteran slots for them.

Thats a good point about the vet slots. I hadnt thought about that.

So far in my tests it looks like imperial infantry slightly superior to BB with 2 reload upgrades.
Difference between vanilla WB and BB almost neglectable.
Have to test kihetai though, may be they actually worth something.

Anyone have completely flat and clear map for tests?

In my opinion, Imperial Infantry units are good in terms of reload and accuacry. But the Black Bears are good in terms of accuacry. (sorry about my spelling). Imperial units are best in terms of reload and accurcy compare to Shogunate units are cheaper useful in siege battles for defense or simply you use overwhelming numbers to attack. Imperial units are costly, but effective if you use them properly. I have vetted one unit of Imperial Infantry with all reload and aiming skills at max while range is 150 yards with Melee defence and suppress fire which I found it useful against melee units charging towards my unit. My typical army is around General, Artillery unit, 2 Imperial guards, 2 Marine units, 2 Imperial Infantry units, 2 Black Bears, and 4 Yari cavalry. Whatever I have to add another unit like sabre cavalry or Shogunate Cavalry.
