    Default Faction Heir

Im playing the big campaign [361?] as Julianus and I'm wondering how I can set my faction heir, since the family tree isnt really functional. And if not, can I influence who will be the next heir? [aka I get the heir killed in a battle and how do I know who will be the next?].

    Thanks for any information.

You lost the heir of Iulian?....You have sent to death the holy heir of Iulian?....Are you an agent of some Bishop?......Your gameplay is suspect! You get killed the dear and beloved son of our Augustus! Betrayal! Assasination! Christians all around! Kill them all! Ad Bestias, start a persecution now!!!

....Wait hoping that your sins will be forgiven by the Gods, you cannot do anything else, maybe a great sacrifice, 100 oxen might be sufficent in the beginning, then go and find an Oracle, tell him the truth and ask the mercy of the True Gods, then go to a teple of Sol Invictus and make a big offer (when I say big, I want to say that you have to sell your home at least!), then a ritual amputation might be useful (a finger might be sufficent, better if you cut the finger from an hand and even better if from the right hand!), then wait and hope, Monotheistic Heretic!

err... what? He isn't dead yet, Marjorianus Flavius is safely in a fort guarding the Danube at the moment. Well, maybe not safely :p But he is a Christian and I want a pagan heir to go with the whole Pagan restoration. Plus, his character kind of sucks in terms of traits and whatnot. And if I cant choose a new heir, how can I make him into a nice little pagan?

Don't mind Diocle. I have no idea what he is on about half the time

I don't think you can set it as Julianus has no family members at the start. He'd have to have a son or a general gets adopted into the family. There you can set your heir however until then your at the whim of the games selection. Mine went from Nevitta, to some useless bugger (who lasted one turn before he died of old age ) before he adopted several suspect sorts who could be selected as an Heir.

I've also noticed Julianus is 'barren' from the game start - does that mean he will not have children, or just that he has an extremely low chance of having children? And as for adoption, is it the same as in vanilla, where a successful general can win a victory and then randomly ask to be adopted?

edit: I've seen a character lose his religion a couple times, how does this dynamic work, and how do I influence it to get my desired result of making them into pagans again?

Yes, Julian never had children which is why he is shown barren. The trait should indicate that he never has children but some players have noticed that Julian has had children, so I suppose it is possible. But the best way is via adoption and yes, this is the same as in vanilla.

This is caused by a character trait that a character can pick up randomly under certain conditions. I don't think it can be manipulated in-game.

I happens but it is extremely rare. In all the campaigns that i played with Julian i remember seeing a heir being born only once and maybe a daughter.

It can be slightly influenced but it doesn't always work. for example, i noticed on few occasions that if u load an individual with christian ancillaries like bishop, nails from the holy cross etc. and put him in a town with christian bassilica he is likely to convert at some point. Im not sure if it works the same way for the paganism as i never tried it.

Didn't Julian become a Hindu in someone's AAR? Come to think of it, if he had made it that far east, it's somehow plausible.

I think that was an issue where someone added an update and it was not save game compatible!

Only once i get a chance to have a male heir born. Most of the times they are adopted and in some game i played long ago he did have three or four daughters. In any case i remember that in that game i did choose as heir my son-in-law, well he was kinda useless and did die assassinated by a persian blade when i toke Shiraz, i remember that because i was so piss that i drop the game and erased all saves, i never had a game so good as that, 4 months of work...you get the point...it was kinda traumatic...

You should probably add that entry under 'rage quit' at urbandictionary.com

Ha ha, nice way to dispose of your one and only successor, just send him straight into wolve's lair to get slain. And i thought i was cruel packaging all my misfit family members, cowards, back stabbers, unloyal, barren, animal lovers, treazonous, gluttons and other old and useless undesirables on a bireme with one way ticket against a pirate navy somewhere in the british coast.

Dont get me wrong i did not wanted him to die like that. I think a emperor should rule by exa,ple so command the army in the front lines is my own way. I did hope he will get better however he begun gaining to much eastern traits and then the guy become a follower of zoroastrianism however he did not deserved that death. Two more push on i will be following the path of Alexander and conquer india, then those persian bastards kill the guy, the sucessor come from a small familly i dont even recall is name, he only had a daughter and unmaried with is death the constantinians died out so you get it...Buut even if the emperor is a crazy as a rock he still was the emperor...then in a future game i get a strategy...every time my emperor conquers a town i make a spy and a assassin, the spy detects others assassins around and my assassin well slay the bastards since then i never losse a emperor or general to assassin's blade a shame i only figured that much later on..

Of course he did! What a disgrace to a Roman. If he walked, talked, smelled and dressed like a heathen he deserved the heathen's death. I bet you if u investigate it closer it was probably one your true outstanding roman generals who got tired of his emperor's never ending adventures and hired a persian blade to cut it short. That guy in my opinion is the true hero, my friend.

If my faction heir started driving a black BMW, listening only to house music and shopping four days a week at Armani exchange I'd probably have him assassinated too.

That might be true...perhaps some son of Silvanus or Barbatio or Gratianus finished him off. I usually dont get Silvanus or Barbatio become rebel. I strip then of the army they command and put then as governors in minor provinces that always until know prevented they become rebel. In any case a emperor with to much eastern traits is bad for moral still i dont wanted him dead i believe that the guy should become though in battle but sadly i needed to have another army follow him with a good general because enless i did that he will have found death much more sooner on the battle field...yes indeed as general the guy was also a failure but it was the emperor...

Only if his first name starts with Qusai or Odai. Anyway, i would trash the radio, give the A/X clothes to David Beckham and keep the Beemer.
