Im confused, the game doesnt actually work with the 7xxx series cards...they didnt mention that it even works.

So do i get a 20 percent increase until the lock up and reset or what?

of course it works on thise cards, its minimum requirement is the 5000 series...(which would explain why my PC can only just make it with Shogun...)

sigh, 7970 user here 40 hours logged with the game 0 lock ups, granted not saying their isnt a problem but ive yet to experience on 3 different platforms and 6 HD 7000 series GPUs
anyway, performance increase is noticeable i am not seeing a 20% increase but performance is up depending on situation im around 9-13% increase.

You mean 7xxx series cards bugs crashes with Shogun 2?

The game work ok with my 7970 but there crashes bugs exist yet. Occasionally though.

By the way, this drivers performance improvement work only 7900-7700 cards.

Gave a few friends a call

7970,
2x 7870,
2x 7850,
7750

on various setups P67, Z68 and Z77 are showing performance gains this systems have also been 100% stable in Shogun 2 without crashes since day one,
my 7970 is showing 9-13%
the first 7870 is showing only 5%
the second system using a 7870 shows 8%
both 7850 systems are only showing 0-3% depending on battle type
7750 shows 2% increase but its consistant, only the in game benchmark was tested so not sure if in game battles will see any increase or not

also 9-13% seems more reasonable not sure where you saw 20% from but AMD says 15% max increase, i overlooked that 20% in the OP but direct from my Email from AMD

Performance increase with 8xMSAA is kinda funny since so far it's not really playable even with a 7970@1200Mhz, lol. But it's nice to see AA performance apparently getting some love since there is almost no point in getting a good graphics card nowadays without using MSAA or even better some SSAA.

I also hope that reviewers will give AA performance and quality more attention. It's rather pointless to see comparison betwen a GTX680 and a 7970 with 100+ framerates because they test without any AA.

Anyway, I will probably give them a try soon and hopefully SSAA performance will be improved as well since 4xSSAA looks better than 8xMSAA anyway.

The question is 'Compared to which driver version ?'. The max might be compared against the slowest driver.


Sth. else: MSI-Afterburners framerate limiter is great for TW games!!! I posted that already in the tech support thread but had to mention it again here . AMD needs to put that into CCC as well (Nvidia already has sth similar).

If you don't have any problems in 2D or with any game, I wouldn't recommend it. There is probably more of a chance that it will break something than that you get a big performance increase since it's not even mentioned explicitly.


Ok no performance change for me with 4xSSAA in 1920x1080 with my 7970@1100Mhz. Same 41fps with benchmark. But one crash with Opera, lol.

A bit off topic but, how do you enable ssaa in shogun? Ive never seen an option in the options menu and i cant see an option to force it

Depends whether you have AMD or Nvidia hardware.

1) Select the MSAA mode in S2

2a) AMD: In the CCC you select the "3D Application Settings\Anti-Aliasing Mode\Super-sample AA" option (with the slider). Here, SSAA level will always be the same as MSAA level.


2b) Nvidia: I am not familiar with the latest drivers but 6 months ago, you needed to use Nvidia Inspector. Here you could actually select a different SSAA level from the MSAA level, like 4xMSAA + 2xSSAA

12.7 betas do nothing to fix the hard lock/crash issue for 7970 card owners. Locked up on me and forced me to reboot after ~3 minutes. Others are reporting the same on the official forum.

I tried installing this on my laptop yesterday and it gave me a blue screen then shut my comp down. Does anyone know why that might be? as I don't want to try it again until I know. I run a radeon HD 5400

The "up to 20%" may be referring to comparison between 12.7 to release date driver.
