Revolt in Gaul. The Allobroge tribe is in full revolt, and have somehow managed to procure a 30,000-man army to attempt to drive Rome out.
The Scythians have launched a massive invasion of Dacia, causing the tribe to flee south. The Dacians have pushed through Dardania and the remains of Thrace, and now threaten to spill over the Danube into Roman lands. King Cotys of Thrace has called for Roman assistance.
"The situation with Dacia is an urgent one. Most of our forces in the east are positioned to fight Pontus. And I must relinquish my role in that war to keep my promise to defend Thrace from invasion."
OOC: you know what I mean with that senior thingi.
I trust Regulas can handle the situation with the legions currently in Iberia, I reconsider Aquila to go to Dacia with his own legions and If Valerius think it is necessary I can help him in that war.
OOC: Well, Aquila's more senior by a couple years. If you want me to clarify that and switch the names around, I can
"Yes, Regullus is more than capable. He's beaten the Gauls before with less men, he can do it again now. But for me to go to Dacia, I'll need more than just my four legions, and without those Valerius may need reinforcements. However, the majority of the Senate's other legions are in Spain, too far away to be of use. So I ask that Consul Maximus and Praetor Tuccius lend us their legions."
Aquila turns to Sextus. "Dacians invading Greece is to our advantage?"
"Even their private legions are in Africa and Sardinia, not much closer than Spain. I am interested to hear Sextus' proposition"
ooc: senior and junior consuls were determined by vote (which we haven't needed lately), senior held the facses during January and usually picked his campaign first.

"Do not rush into battle without considering the alternatives. If you want my legions you may have them, but I am not convinced that the Dacians are our foes."
"The Dacians have no reason to harbor ill will towards Rome. They just need land for their people to surivive on, as all men do. Pontus has land, fertile land. If we were to offer the Dacians a large slice of territory in Asia Minor in exchange for their help in the Mithradic War, we could eliminate two threats at once. Assuming we conquer Pontus, the Dacian settlers would also reduce the chance of rebellion there. If they were found to be agreeable to this arrangement, then I can foresee few downsides."
"I understand your point, but Dacia is a large nation and they have so many other options for expansion -- Pannonia, Dalmatia, Dardania -- they must have something against Rome, and for all we know Mithridates is behind this. That or the Dacians are insane."
Marcus Valerius Belisarius arrives at the Curia escorted by half a dozen of his personal guard seeking enterence and a brief consultation.
He has heard that the seat as Pro-Consul of Sicilia-Africa is currently vacant and has indeed ambitions to claim the commission in order to advance his political (and military) career.
