Born into a wealthy Roman family, Marcus Valerius Belisarius has always been a man with resources. However unlike his father or his other siblings he never truly liked the extravagant social life of the Roman Forum, with the exception of the regular gladiatorial games. His father, Flavius Belisarius was quick to see the potential of his oldest son and went to great lengths to nurture his son's military interests.
At age 20 Marcus Belisarius, with the approval of his father, entered service under one of the then most powerful patricians in the Republic and served for some 15 years. During his military service Marcus Belisarius gained a reputation as a sturdy and competent leader with great tactical understanding and innovative thinking. Marcus Belisarius is a stern proponent of mounted warfare and has conducted a lot of study and training in this field of combat, greatly inspired by the Hetairoi under Alexander the Great. As such he is regarded as one of the best equestrians in the whole Republic. With the death of his father a couple of years ago Marcus Belisarius became the patron of the house. Now he has returned to Rome full of confidence and ready to serve the Republic, or whomever he finds most persuasive. Marcus Belisarius is often viewed as a womanizer and indeed his love for them may be one of his weakpoints that any would-be opponent would consider. For in Rome women can be the most cruel and cunning of political weapons.
