My beef with head hurlers

Yes, you seen it right, I didn't even bother to capitalize the names of this ridiculous unit.

What is up with these guys anyway, they throw severed heads at my legionnaires and my legionnaires drop like flies. I mean come on... they have shields, Lorica Segmentata armor, and helmets for christ sake. God forbid somebody toss a severed head at one of them, they'll get a concussion or faint from all the blood.

You may question why, out of all the ridiculous units in vanilla R:TW, did I question this particular unit. It's because severed heads piercing shields and chainmail... come on now. I can believe pigs spontaneously combusting.. but this... this is ridiculous. In all my years of playing Rome, I've been questioning this.

I mean I would understand if the hurled heads destroyed my legionnaires morale and caused them to waver, maybe even piss their pants... but nope... they give them concussions and render their armor useless. Yes, you've heard it right, if severed heads and a roman legion were to get in a fight, the severed heads would win every time.

God, I hate that unit....

That's why there have been mods that get rid of them for, oh, about 6 years now.

Haha, I know. I just recently installed Rome again the other day on my laptop and I decided to give vanilla a shot before going to RSII.

Actually it's the lime that kills your men, not the heads themselves (that's what it's supposed to represent anyways...)

There is absolutely no point in playing vanilla RTW. I'm surprised the multiplayer crowd doesn't use any superior mods for the game. Hell, they don't even play BI anymore, which is better than vanilla.

I liked it, I still do. I'd just rather play it with mods sometimes. Such as RSII, I might try EB after this Roman campaign.

I never liked BI much. I'm not a fan of the later years of the Roman Empire. So that's a bias I guess.

This is not true. In order to have a proper multiplayer gameplay we need a fast melee speed and important moral shocks. This is the case in vanilla. In mods (like xgm) ,however, melee is much, much slower and, there are hardly any great moral shocks, like a combined strike of chariots and head hurler instantly routing a few unit.

About BI, there have been many discussions. In my opinion the phalanxes add much more flavor to the game. This is the reason why there are still a lot of player who plays RTW MP. If you want BI styles of fighting, then you would just as well buy STW2 or MTW2 instead.

If you want to counter HH, you just need to have some archers and fire flaming arrows at them. When they are wavering, you just charge them with a light cav and they will route.

You found head hurlurs to be that damaging? Whenever i play with britannia i never use head hurlurs except as a joke: they don't have enough ammunition to be a game-changer on the battlefield. Once they are out of ammo, their unit is useless. Your decimated (they really did that much damage to you?) unit could still take them apart....

Did you read the last sentence in my post? I was kidding and exaggerating. I didn't know my enemy had head hurlers and they took out half of my unit of Early Legionarys. Its like Lolwtf. I demolished them after they used their ammunition.

Well Ireland better be in Rome 2.
We did exist and had the Newgrange site built long before the Pyramids.We had druids eating mushrooms and great warriors from Celtic legend.Ireland better be a faction.
Head hurlers did exist where do you think hurling came from?We need more effort put into Britain,Ireland,Scotland unit rosters.....
The picts took out the 9th legion and did so not with cavemen but real warriors with woad make up and dangling hairy genatalia.Shouting come at meh laddy

Yeah vanilla Rome did alot of stupid things. I think it is because they wanted to appeal to a larger audience back in 2004.
