Default Are my Generals getting bribed?!?

Okay I recently reinstalled Rome TW to play this mod, 2.5 version. I used to play ages ago when it was just roma surrectum 1.something. Anyway i started a Roman campaign and defeated hannibal turn one, things going well. Roman rebellion occurs 2nd carthaginian army and macedonian hassle keep things tight. Anyway i slowly rebuild my forces sort of following one of the play guides on these forums where you try to build 4 legions led by Scipio elder, Scipio younger, Nepos and Varro -i think i got their names right-.

Anyway after lots of fighting and building my legions i finally have all 4 of them with capua recaptured and the carthaginians pushed back to just harassing my island colonies. All i have left to do is capture the rebellious city in the south, cant remember the name maybe tarrentum. So i send Young scipio to sort this out with a fairly fresh inexperienced stack. Im up against 1/2 macedonian stack, 1 1/2 rebel stacks and a small group of free people. So while young scipio is doing battle my city on the greek shores comes under siege from some macedonians...

I quickly send over varro and deal with the macedonians promptly. End turn, my varro legion has disapeared completely. WTF, i guess he just rebelled. Problem is more macedonians turn up, i send nepos who has a decent legion, he deals the macedonians and guess what end turn, this time he doesnt disappear he just turns blue...... with an almost full legion. Next i send over older scipio and at this time a large legion stack appears next to my young scipio from a navy-could this be varros legion? Anyway point is i win again with older scipio end turn and bang hes gone. Thats actually the point in the game where i got ticked off. Older scipio had my best legion full with 3 silver chevrons silver weapons and armor. He also had a ridiculous number of command points and had just won the +5 command point trait but I never got to total up those stars before he disappeared.

So im majorly annoyed and is wondering whats happening all 3 legions have abandoned me on the greek shore. Also one of those legions has popped up blue on my roman coast (guessing its one of my rebellious ones as i meticulously destroyed the previous rebels and there were definitely none left other than inside the city which i had besieged by that point). Anyway i was annoyed and trying to figure it out, i notice there is a diplomat (macedonian i think) sat outside my greek city, hmmm i remember now hes been there for quite a while. So i go to faction rankings look at the graphs of finance and i notice that macedon has a ridiculous bank of 18000000 something and i notice some very significant dips in macedonias finances. One of which occured last turn when my awesome Scipio disappears - note All these generals had great loyalty ratings in fact i think they were some of the most loyal in the whole republic.

So Wtf is happening and is it meant to be like this, can i change it? These are the questions i have.
If it is meant to be like this i kinda think its silly 3 legions disappearing within 1 turn, wtf am i supposed to do to counter a diplomats ridiculous bribes if that is the case. Please Help!

I wasn't aware the AI could bribe the player

The AI can bribe armies but I've never had a general being bribed. The worst I had was a group of relief soldiers travelling to the frontlines. A few turns later a Carthagian army attacked the middle of my Gallaeci kingdom out of nowhere and when I looked I saw it was the troops I just lost.

If they all abandoned you in the same region and the Macedonians have that ridiculous amount of money, chances are your legions were probably scooped. Although I think there is something wrong if Macedonia has that much money.

I've noticed a huge spike in bribes and sabotage from the AI in the 2.5 version. However if the AI has that kind of money "WTF??!!".

If the general became a rebel, then it wasn't a bribe.

I think it might be the imperium thing tone was talking about.
Basically, a general left for too long in the field without ever going back to a settlement would rebel.

The problem with RS2.5 is that the trait is currently hidden, so you don't know when they will rebel.

If you haven't gone too far, and still have a save around, I'd suggest sending the generals for one or two turns in a town.

We have the 'hidden' traits 'unhidden' for the testing to help review odd behaviours - but this one is truly odd.

However, it definitely shouldn't be the 'Imperium Loyalty' effect as that doesn't occur until the Imperium is inaugurated by Phase 2 of the Imperial Reforms. Even when it is the player sees the Loyalty 'Rings' declining and is therefore prompted to do something about it.

Bribery is indeed possible - the presence of an Enemy Diplomat next to your army is normally the cause.

But I am puzzled by the amount of money floating about - that's most unusual (AI factions tend to spend their money - and I monitor them a fair bit - I'll often have Rome with the most Treasury - reported at 30k no less!).

Two questions - have you modified anything or added money (for being able to afford 4 legions that early is unusual too)? And have you activated the script every time you've played?

I have been made no extra modifications to the game or added any money. And yes my own treasury was around 30k each turn i spent all that 30k on building economy and my legions. Although my post sounds like i got those legions really fast it did take me quite a while (i retrained my legions after almost every battle) and a lot of fighting. And yes i watched my denar go up by 1 each time i loaded the campaign, i only loaded it 3 times.

But i do have a save game where i still have 3 of my 4 legions, if i go further back then i have to do some serious fighting against roman rebels again which I only just won so id rather not .

I will try the same thing again.

Your generals will sometimes rebel. Do not head an army with a general who has a low loyalty rating.

You can always deal with the diplomat by surrounding him and then occupy the space he's in. You will have to continually do that, though because the AI will keep pumping them out.
