Default WHere are the UI images located?

I am very happy with RS 2.1 in many ways, but my old studio comp is not so much.

My little gaming computer functions much better under RS 1.6a, and so I must stick with that version.

But I'm exploring copying over some of the great UI improvements found in 2.1 (such as the cursors and scroll backgrounds) and am experiencing some difficulty...

When I copy over the TGA files from all of the relevant UI directories in 2.1 over to 1.6, I could swear that I transferred every single one, yet STILL some of the old 1.6a version UI elements run in game.

My best guess is that these hangers-on UI elements I'm seeing are stored in the 1.6a pack directory.

But if they are, I'm not sure which pack(s), or how to extract them (or swap over a specific 2.1 pack file).

Does anyone know why these 2.1 UI improvements by the RS team aren't showing up when I drop them into my 1.6a version?

    Cheers in advance guys...

You're probably right about UI files in the packs.

    To unpack them, use this.

    A tutorial.

Not all pack files are in the list to be unpacked, so you'll have to add them.

If you have trouble unpacking files, please tell me.

    Thanks.
I could use just a little hand-holding on what you seem to be indicating; that I need to type specific triggers for some pack files(?).
That is done in the DOS command window? What is that syntax exactly?

Perhaps I'm missing something, because that doesn't seem to be what the tutorial is including.
My own unpacking's data folder hasn't contained the UI files in question yet, so I'm obviously in need of these further instructions.

If you open xpak.bat using a text editor (notepad), it should look like that (I'm not sure I have the original files, but it does not matter).

    Code:
    xpak.exe -mkdir patch_0.pak battle_open.pak patch_1.pak game_init.pak
    xpak.exe patch_0.pak battle_open.pak patch_1.pak game_init.pak
However, if you have a look at the pack folder, you'll notice that there are more pack files than those listed here.
You'll need to add the missing one to the bat file.

    Good ol' Notepad.
    I shoulda known.
    Reps to you Paedric.

Edit* Hmmmm.. When I follow step #8 on the tutorial, the command lines read as though the mod_0.pak file is unpacked, but no 'data' folder is manifested as described.
I must still be missing something in this editing of the bat file.

Unless your doing it one by one, there's only going to be one data folder for all pack files.

I generate a data folder with some of the pak files, but when trying to use this procedure to unpack mod_0.pak alone, I get no data file. I don't see the content in question when unpacking together either.

    Ahhhh? =)
    "Both lines"?
Add it to the top line AND the bottom line eh?

*edit Thanks. That's what I did wrong.

But now that I think about it, WHY should we pack some things up and not others?
If I just leave these files open in their respective directories, will they not function just as well?

Because RTW is a bit strange.
The game looks first for files in the mod:*** folder, then the data folder, then the packs.
However, for some files it looks in the packs first. So even if you change them outside of the pack folder, it will always display the unmodified files in the pack file.

My question leans more on the issue of 'requirements'.

If all pak files contents are placed into their respective directories, and then the pak files removed from the packs folder, could the game not still function correctly?

It it necessarily to repack certain files for the game to function correctly?

When I mod ETW NTW or STW, it is necessarily for most all changes to be packed as that generation of TW titles are strictly organized using compressed files. But RTW and M2TW, not so much it seems.

    I don't think it's necessary, no.
