    Default Crusader Kingdoms

What do you guys do when you parcipitate in the crusade (usually the holy land) and take the city?

    You leave the place?

Make your own Crusader Kingdom by conquering the rest of Holy Land?

Or similliar to the above, Give your conquered territories in the Holy Land to other christian faction and watch how they survive?

Usually i do the nr.3 option, cause i feel there is a need of christian factions when the original Crusader States decease. And i love to watch how the AI destroyes themselves.

I either do a ceasefire after the crusade and maintain the settlement or exterminate the population, sell the buildings and leave the place with public order 10 to go to another settlement to do the same until there is no army left.

    Just because of the money.

I usually try to hold Jerusalem and expand, basically fight on through whatever means at my disposal... (though I usually eventually fail and are pushed out by Islamic forces- BGR IV is hard).
In BGR IV/RRRC you get some neat traits due to distance away from king- like "not being watched by King" etc. so this gives good atmosphere of an almost independent kingdom. Eventually I am forced to sell
up and usually take my remaining forces to Rhodes collecting mercenaries along the way and set up in Rhodes; just like the Knights Hospitaller did when they were eventually driven away from the holy
land. Playing like this gives good atmosphere. \(^o^)/

I believe regular SS already gives these traits. Do you get ancillary in favor or agaisnt that atmosphere?

    @ Lord Minotaur

I like to ally & fight along with the crusader states. A lot of selling (crusader settlement won back and maybe lost again and so on...), is undertaken with the
crusader states; though I always hold on to Jerusalem myself and try to keep some territories for myself while helping both myself and the crusade states
survive. However, often we're both eventually overwhelmed, if I find myself down to last settlement I usually sell it to the Fatimid Caliphate.

I usually dont bother dragging the army back home seeing as you dont get the movement bonus anymore, i leave them to fight on honorably. Helps slow down the expansion of fatamids or turks if they have an irritating western european army at their back.
Except in spain where i normally gift it to the kingdom of leon.
One thing that really bothered me about the historical crusades is that the vast majority of the troops went home afterwards leaving the kingdom of jerusalem seriously undermanned

If it's in the Holy Lands and they're still alive, I almost always give the regions to the Crusaders. Otherwise I either give them to the Byzantines or to the Pope, depending who I feel like appeasing. After that I usually disband the army and bring the general(s) home.

As England, I started a war with the Moors (who were encroaching on Toulouse) in order to appease my ally Aragon. I had hoped to trade them a captured Moorish territory in return for Bordeaux, to complete my Angevin Empire boundaries. Attacks by France made me have to abandon hopes of actually taking a Moorish territory, though, and I was forced to turn around and fight them off.

The Moors got upset and fortified their borders. They also started raiding mine, so I ended up losing my patience and took Bordeaux by force. After that, I sent my best general on a Crusade against the Moors, captured Tunis, and gave it back to them in exchange for peace. After our little history together, we're all peaches. Can't say the same about poor Aragon... I really do feel bad about that kingdom falling

As my destiny as the Crusader States, it is the Will of God to take and hold the Holy Lands!...and then get beaten back into my multiple island fortresses to try again.
