I'm travelling to scotland next week and would love to have a good historical novel to enjoy the highlands with in the late hours.
Something in the same league as Bernard Cornwell and Ken Follett novels..
Cheers

Conn Iggulden's two series on the Mongols and Romans respectively are good places to start. The books themselves are are fairly large so you could buy the first book in each series and go from there.
'Ahh yes an authentic rastaclot weapon, as used by the rastaclot nobles in the court of King Bumbaclot '
Indeed, unfortunately I have already read them. Also most of Robert Low's novels and George R R Martin. With that said I think I'm open for any other historical novels..
Insurrection or Brethren by Robyn Young. First one is set in Scotland, talking about Robert Bruce, the second has a Scot as the main character. Maybe not as good as Cornwell, but enjoyable.
If you enjoyed Dance then, although its not historical, you might want to try the The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss. The first book, The Name Of The Wind, is good , the second not so much.
