Default World economy to get worse?

So this is only my thinking so just take it as such.

China is just now very close to the end of the industrial stage of economic development and is moving closer and closer to complete information age economics, as in ideas and not manufacture.

This would mean that people in the western world in these field would face a challenge unprecedented much like the manufacturing sector is facing now.

Africa is now going to go through the industrial transformation and probably if not replace at least take more of a role in terms of being the center for manufactoring.

So anyone actually think the economy will get better?

I think 3D printing could be the way forward, on the manufacturing side. The technology isn't fully read yet but it will be.
    Support regulation for fracking.

It depends how far the new technology can push; currently we are locked into a situation where new technology is not mature enough to be large industry and old technology is dying.

It's going to get worse before it gets better, the question is how long the transition will take, helped or hindered by national economic policies.

And 3D printing and related technology will encourage customized and close by industries, who can react quickly and without transport costs to changing market conditions. Especially if most of the work is automated/done by robots.

Industrial society is a growth paradigm, i.e. it requires infinite growth to function indefinitely.
    Sorta like a pyramid scheme.

Infinite growth clashes with finite resources. The Earth does not have unlimited resources.

Therefore, the world economy will indeed get worse. We might have one more boom left in us before that happens, but I think it's unlikely.

Optimists say that technology will solve everything. Pessimists say that a global hyperinflation will send us back to the stone age. The truth is likely between these two extremes, in addition to a few hundred million people dying to cataclysms and starvation (overpopulation and climate factors). In the end, the mankind will be fine, implying that the current post-cold war multipolar nuclear situation doesn't escalate (which it likely will at some point), but even then a nuclear winter is unlikely to kill everyone.

We won't go Stone Age, but without oil, we won't be able to feed 7+ billion people.
's going to get unpleasant, though ironically the West has a lot of the good land, so there won't be poetic justice for history...

Probablly a big reason why West is powerful in the first place. Much of a country's fate is determined by its geography.

the earth doesn't, but the resources of the universe are practically infinite. I hope I will live to see post-scarcity, it already exists for so many of our desires.

Industrial society is nothing like a pyramid scheme even if indefinite growth until the end of scarcity is desirable.

The elements oil based fertilizer add tot he soil can be found elsewhere. There are pesticides and herbicides that are not oil based. And anyway, there is plenty of oil in the solar system.

You know, when in Shogun the province takes a massive hit in civil unrest after a conquest; the upside being the populace hasn't felt it's been looted yet.
