I'm about a quarter of the way through with the first book and I'm enjoying it so far, but the problem is I have feeling that George Martin is going to go into cardiac arrest before he even finishes the series. He writes so slowly and keeps changing how many books there will be. I'm going to be real pissed if I read all of these books just for him to die before he finishes the last one.

Just do it. It's a great series even if it doesn't end up getting finished. Also the show will likely keep him on schedule from here on out.

Also he's explained the whole series and its ending to the show's writers, so we'll get some conclusion even if he does die.

The dude is apparently totally obsessed with Football and Fantasy Football, to the point where he doesn't get anything done really during football season.

I mean I enjoy Fantasy Football, but you set your roster once a week, there are only so many moves you can make, how can he spend that much time on it?

Iīll rephrase: I had no damn idea that these books existed until the tv show hit it big. Then a few months later i started looking for the books but couldnīt find any, but by the time that season two started the first book was allready published and the second one was on itīs way, so you know, i still owe it to the producers for making me interested in the subject and making the books themselves more accesible/affordable.

It's an intersection between sports and math. You an 9-13 other people draft NFL players to build your team, enough for starters in all the skill positions and a decent number of backups. It's fun and based mostly on luck, but there's plenty of skill and strategy involved. For example do you play your stud wide receiver against a good defense that could potentially shut him down, or do you play your backup against a poor defense and hope he has a breakout game?

It's fun, but I don't know how he spends as much time on it as he apparently does.

Thats a silly reason to not read the books. Even if the worst happens ( I think he was about a decade or so left in him, maybe more ) he has loads of notes of how it is going to end for each character, he knows everything that is going to happen. He also has divulged a lot of it to the producers of Game of Thrones.

Thats . G. R. R. M. just allows you to become more attached to the characters he will kill in the next books

I stopped reading at book 4 and just read the rest of the story on wikipedia. Its interesting at first but then you realize the author is going to systematically annihilate all of your favorite characters.

Cannot wait John Snow become the Lord of The Others, then go into a unholy crusade similar as Chaos in Warhammer Fantasy.

I finished catching up on it yesterday.

I wrestled with reading the series for several months. It was after learning that the third book will be split into two seasons that pushed me towards reading it, because I can't stand the thought of waiting 2 years for one book's worth.

The plan is for seven, but from what I have seen, it isn't beyond reason it could go to eight...Lol

But really, for all of its vaunted reputation Game of Thrones doesn't kill that many main characters off. Hell Harry Potter does a better job of killing major characters on a regular basis.

I have no doubt that the last book will be a blood bath, but still.
