    Icon4 RTR 7 Confusion

I'm a long time fan and appreciator of Rome Total war and the total realism mods. Last time I played, I believe I was using RTR Extended realism and it was good times. And now I come here and there is this thing called RTR 7, and so I download it, but I am unable to install any of the patches successfully. I was looking at the form thread for that, but honestly it's way to confusing to sift through. Patch 2a downloaded, I put it in the file as directed by the forum topic, but I couldn't extract anything from it or install it, it was tragic.

In addition to not being able to install the patches/hotfixes, I am just sort of confused by this mod. It seems like most of the factions are either some kind of Gaul or some kind of Greek, and you can't play as Germania in the campaign, and their faction symbol is a big question mark--which actually amused the hell out of me. I'm under the assumption that everything in here is supposed to be as realistic as possible--but wasn't the RTR extended realism mod going after that same goal? If so, then how is it that they came out so differently? Are there two time lines of history? Am I from another dimension?

I'd like to play whichever mod is the most universal and historically accurate. Which one should I be playing? Thank you for your time.

By the way, I posted this same thing in the extended realism section by mistake, so i'm reposting it here where it is more relevant I think.

    Hey,

The install info for the mod seems simple to follow, you should read it again and take it step by step. As for the mod, this version focuses on a smaller area from the old map(only western and central Mediteranean basin) but this gives more depth when it comes to historical accuracy then the previous versions. If you wish to play with a larger map then you should try the Platinum based mods, if you want more depth but a smaller area then VII is the choice.

I see. Yeah, I follow the patch instructions--the files i'm downloading aren't working then. Not sure why.

So what's the difference between RTR extended realism and RTR Platinum? I was just downloading this thing called RTR Extended 4.0--is that the latest one? Is platinum the most complete?

RTR6 Platinum is the version you'll be used to, it's essentially the fully developed version of the original RTR mod. While it offers a good deal of fun, realism and gameplay, you can clearly see that development stopped in 2006 which is why it feels a bit outdated when compared to the more modern and active mods.

Extended Realism is one of those modern mods which is still being developed. It actually is the most recent version of RTR6, but has been developed continuously until present date. The most recent version is ExRm 4.0, which has just been finished. It offers more realism and depth at the RTR6 scale, i.e. a map stretching from Britain to India.

The RTR VII series was created by those who took over the banner after the old RTR 6/7 team collapsed. It offers a completely new RTW experience, using maps with a smaller geographical scale but an enormous level of depth and realism. The graphics are very much up-to-date with shiny units and environments; and clever game mechanisms attempt to offer a challenge to the RTR veterans. 'RTR VII' is the last incarnation of this project, I'd certainly advise you to at least give it a try.

    To clarify...

ExRM 4.0 is not finished, we're in final beta - and looking that way for some months yet.

The ExRM forum: come for the mod, stay for the Classical History discussions. Or vice versa.

Sorry Carados, I thought you had released the final build. Like you can see, I haven't had the time to try it out myself as of yet.
