Default The Twins, Seat of the Freys

On the Trident lays two identical castles, one on the west and one on the east, connected by a massive bridge that lets denziens of the western half of the Riverlands reach the Kingsroad. Situated on a calm current with a commanding view of the countryside, the Twins are, and continue to be, massive centers of trade and commerce. All shipping down towards the south travels under the bridge, guarded by the Water Tower, and all farmers from the west trying to send crops to the Crownlands or elsewhere must travel under the great gates of the Twins. The Freys have held the crossing since its construction, which began under a Frey who built the original bridge across the Trident. As the years progressed, there were two wooden keeps placed to defend each side, and as they wore and broke they were soon rebuilt with stone, until they became the Trident as known today.

Known to be a fertile family by nature, the Freys have recently been bottlenecked by deaths during Robert's Rebellion. Twenty-six Freys died in the conflict, leaving only Lord Leon, Ser Carrigan, and several Frey sisters as all that remains of this once massive house. Chambers in both castles lay empty, and Lord Leon has not had nearly as many children as is common. That said, of course, six children is still a massive amount, especially with three boys. Tragedy has been common for these Freys, with a cripple and a dwarf as part of the same flock. Despite this, they are still one of the richest houses in Westeros, and its members are no pushovers neither in battle nor in politics.

    Notable villages: Hag's Mire, Sevenstreams

    Major Characters

    Lord Leon Frey

    Appearance

    Age: 27

Personality: A calm and collected man, Leon is slow to act but does so ferociously when so provoked. Jovial to all except those that anger him greatly, he is very much not Walder Frey, his brother that died of a badly infected wound in his youth.

Backstory: Called the "Unlikely Lord" by the remainder of his jesting family, Leon is one of the last Freys living, having lost the majority of his family at the trident so many years ago. Only his younger brother Carrigen and sisters remain alive, the bastard one remaining a fixture at the twins.

    Lady Sansa Frey

    Appearance

    Age: 24

Personality: A firebrand by nature, some jest that Sansa is the man in the relationship and Leon the woman. In truth, her husband is one of the few men outside of her ability to dominate by personality.

Backstory: She is the fourth daughter of a Umber, and was rather oddly parceled off to the Riverlands following the union of Stark and Tully. She has had six children by Lord Leon, and remains his faithful companion since their wedding at seventeen. She practices regularly with sword and shield and bow, something that what few family members remain find rather "Unconventional" to say the least. Of course, they'd never say that to her face.

    Ser Carrigan Frey

    Appearance

    Age: 21

Personality: Sly and witty, Carrigan has always been a man of dishonor for victory, and his family's many deaths has not changed that. He will always choose what gets his family the best, rather than what makes his family look the best. The ends justify the means, after all.

Backstory: As Master of the Crossing, Carrigan holds the honor of managing all traffic that crosses the Trident, and as such is one of the most powerful men in the Twins, before his brother. He saw combat on the Trident, and saw his many brothers falling alongside him. He is yet unmarried, and has been a long-term wisher of joining the Night's Watch. Leon has forbade this up till now, but one never knows. He also acts as the captain of "Crosser", a river galley that can sail from the Twins to places as far north as the Neck, and as far east as the capitol.

    Minor Characters

Leona Frey: Leon's sister, unmarried. Age 16.

Septa Sarya Rivers: Leon's bastard sister, member of the faith since youth and teacher of his daughters. Age 30.

    Frey Children

Sella Frey: A girl of ten.

Edmure Frey: A boy of nine. Crippled in a horse accident (a la Willas Tyrell), permanently confined to crutches. Studying to become a Maester in Oldtown.

Marion Frey, The Heir: A boy of seven. Firebrand and obsessed with chivalric culture.

Pella Frey: A dwarf girl of six. Very bookish and reclusive.

Leona Frey: A girl of five. "Unconventional" as her mother.

Leon Frey: A boy of three. Sharp of mind beyond his years with his mother's temper.

A merchant arrives, with his guards baring the sigil of House Dayne, a falling star on a lavender field

Good day, my good man. Might I acquire a meeting with good Lord Frey? The merchant says to the guard

Ser Carrigan Frey is on duty, observing his many men at arms and their duties along the crossing. He quickly takes over for his men when the merchant begins speaking.

Houses small and large are all welcome here, my lord of Dayne. Said Ser Carrigan, ushering the man and his guards through the gates. "You'll find my brother in the western twin today, I'm afraid. He switches his seat every few months to keep the staff on their toes.

The gates were open today, as they often were, and one could clearly see all the way past the water tower to the other exit on the western Twin. Dozens of wagons and travelers pass you by on the bridge, some nodding politely and others just trudging along, having made the journey half a hundred times or more in their lifetimes. It was a clear day, and the waters of the Trident shone bright, only marred by the bulk of Crosser, a riverboat painted bright blue and white that moored along the side of the Water Tower.

You find Lord Leon in his seat at court, the midday meal nearly done. The twins and their bridge serve as headrest, and you get the impression that this room was built for far more people than are currently in the room. He notes you with an impassive glance, before sipping the last of a wine glass and handing it to a servant to be taken away.

The merchant approaches Lord Leon, and bows

Goodday, My Lord. I am Qorsyn Dayne, I carry with me the financial interests of House Dayne. My nephew is Lord Henryk Dayne of Starfall, and my other nephew, is Lord Veklund Dayne of High Hermitage. I have come to make a trade proposal on behalf of my nephews, I have more... Financial experiences than they do, however Qorsyn giggles

Might we discuss a proposed trade arrangement, My Lord? It will be most mutually beneficial to us both

Lord Leon sizes up the man before responding. House Frey is amenable to trade with Starfall, though the distances are so great. He said, a few advisors scurrying for quills, paper, and maps. I question how you plan to have merchants reach the Twins? By the rivers, or by the Kingsroad?

By ship from Starfall to Seagard. And from Seagard to The Twins by means of road.

The ships would be most frequent, once per month to start, I am however expanding my fleet at the year's turn, making bi-weekly visits then, My Lord.
    Qorsyn gives a sly smirk

Then I see no reason why not. Says Lord Leon, supping a bit of wine. Starfall may begin when they feel it prudent. Details can be worked out with Ser Carrigan whenever it conveniences you. Until then, the Twins' hospitality is yours. My second set of chambers in the eastern twin should suffice.

(Since I have to leave in a few days, consider the agreement brokered and whatnot)

    Qorsyn bows to Lord Frey

I thank you, My Lord. This will be most beneficial to us both I assure you. Whenever Ser Carrigan is ready, I shall meet with him to iron out the details.
