I just recently started playing RTW again after having not played for many, many years. I received this wonderful offer from the Gauls immediately after they declared war on me.

i never even figured out what that means, exactly. it makes no sense to me. Truce...while at war? they break it instantly anyways, what is the point?

All I can gain from it is they don't want you to attack them while they are massing their forces to attack you. Oh AI why U so silly

I've always figured it to mean: Don't attack us and we won't attack you. But indeed, a rather silly offer. Though some of the offers you get from a faction that has one city left, and then they demand you pay them an extreme amount of money and all of their settlements back, or they will attack are also up there.

Oh I get like that at times. I got from the Brutii several times (and Scipii once) them demanding: a large sum of money, and they're offering: "Accept or we will attack", And we're already at war with them (Greece FTW).

i find the sillier thing to be just 'accept or we will attack' in general, haha. is it actually scripted to do ANYTHING? if the computer is set to attack you, they will, if they're not, then that isn't gonna break it.

Well, how about those times, where a beaten enemy demands 12 regions (e.g. every one you took from them), 3/4 of you savings, traderights and.....mapinformation. followed by a peace offer and accept or we will attack....
I like those. Not. So I always just finish the job instead while wondering what made the AI forth the offer in the first place.

Hello there...this have happened many times to me.I can tell you why,it is usually when a faction is in war with you and AFRAIDS you...

Well I can explain it better,you have a war with gauls..OK the gauls doesn't want you to attack them but they cannot simply go and tell to you.. so they threat you.They just want to prepare for the next round to attack you...so it is stupid to accept lol except if they have good naval units and blco your port (because this is the most common way they attack after you decline their threat.

When egypt was sending this to me i always demanded 30k denarii to accept...then when the negotiations ended they were attacking me...I had almos 100k hahahahahah
