Default How do you think North Korea will die?

OK, assuming North Korea bites the bullet in our lifetimes (and that seems likely to me). How exactly do you think that shindig will go down, and what roles will the surrounding countries (and the USA) be?

(Of coarse we don't know what will happen, or when. This is just what you think is likely)

    Hopefully, in nuclear fire.

Likely, in a popular revolution due to starvation.
when the union's inspiration through the worker's blood shall run,
there can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun,
yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one?
but the union makes us strong.

The most feasible way for the North Korean regime to be overthrown is if a sizable portion of the military revolt against the state. China would have to take a decidedly passive approach to North Korea in such an event.

South Korea would likely lock down the border to stem the flow of refugees south.

As painful as the collapse of the regime is likely to be, the aftermath will be just as bad.

in the same way the rotten west dies hopefully, the peasant masses rise up and overthrow it

Hopefully the apathy and doubt can be resisted and a true peoples revolution can occur, minus any parasites looking to feed on the new host

Not a current event. Moved from the Mudpit to the Academy.

the day China decides to slam the doors on NK, but that's hardly a feasible scenario given the potential influx of refugees and chaos if the regime actually crumbles upon itself.

The current leader “inexplicably” dies, no chosen heirs. The government, existing entirely because people expect perfect, brutal reaction to instability, collapses into various generals’ militaries before a glorious reunion with South Korea where an iconic photo is taken. Korea quickly becomes and Asian tiger and many a news article involves the weird things that North Korea was up to, and the lingering authoritarianism of the region. China, Japan, and Taiwan grumble.

North Korea will stage its collaps to merge with the south. The result would be total infiltration of all south korean institutions which will prepear the south for invasion, chinese invasion. Most likely scenario.

If China invaded North Korea, China would have to face a highly militarized South Korea and potentially nuclear war with the United States and South Korea, and without Russian backing.

That sounds like the Korean War, but worse in every possible way for the Chinese. No reason for it to happen other than Rule of Cool.

No, you don't understand. If NK merges with SK, all the communists will infiltrate SK institutions. Political, Cultural and societal. They will present moderate reformers wich will sell the south Communism, most likely they will call it some kind of social democratic BS. Forgett this military stuff. Best generals don't win fights by fighting them, but by don't need to fight them.

See, wenn East Germany merged with West Germany a huge wave of agends infiltrated the west german society(They did this decades before already) and now Germany has an Secretary for Socialist Propaganda as Kanzler, which came from Eastern Germany from a family with Stasi Connections. Same thing will happen in NK.

    Watch this.

SK doesn't want to merge with NK. They don't want to have to fit the massive bill of developing the massive refugee camp called North Korea.

Irrelevant because they don't want to merge.

Except in the case of of the two Germanys, they wanted to unite with each other. SK doesn't want to unite with NK.

Thats a long post for just saying "oh they don't want to merge so thats all irrelevant".
Do you realy think that? Do you think the Korean Families don't want to unite again after all these years? Do you think you can divide people linke that? That never worked. It will happen, and your statement has no matter.

We stop sending food to them, and one of the hungry bodyguards of Kim shoot and eat him. The country is thrown into chaos where everyone kills and eats each other.

    Death by a thousand cuts.

The current spawn is likely just a figurehead, and the country is ruled by a cabal of generals and the internal security service. An internal collapse as the military reaches the point it can't feed it's soldiers properly, though I suspect that at that point everyone will find it in their interest to stave that off by providing humanitarian assistance.

the old guard in south korea want north korea; the new guard...not so much, and that's gotten the old guard like lee myung bak worried, since he's always wanted to be the one who united the korean puninsula and formed what goldman sachs called 'a united economy that would surpass germany and japan'.

well tough , Lee, aint gonna happen.

Again, Rule of Cool. If South Korea went communist (unlikely, given the massive political power of companies like Hyundai, and the anticommunism that is the basis for the nation’s founding) America would go absolutely and cut off support. South Korea has been historically, and benefits far more from, being on the American side of the fight between capitalism and communism.

And yet...Germany isn’t socialist. Funny how that happens. If East Germany wanted to send in agents prior to the end of the Cold War, they totally could.

That's what Irish people say about Northern Ireland yet if it was offered they would take it fast. That's also what many German politicians and the politicans of other western countries said when it was clear the Warsaw Pact would soon cease to exist. Don't underestimate nationalism, Korea is far more nationalist than most European countries.
