Default Problem starting Third Age campaign

    Hi,

When I select a faction and then click start (when trying to play a third age campaign), instead of starting the campaign, it brings me back to the single player menu. Can someone tell me please how to fix this? Also, I'm using version 3.2.

    Welcome to the TWC forums!

Need some more information to really help.
Is this a retail(CD) or Steam version of M2TW?
Do you have the Kingdoms expansion for M2TW?
What operating system are you using?
Do you have any sub-mods installed?

    Some things to try:
    1. Delete the two descr_geography new files in the data folder
    2. If you are using Vista or Win 7 and the retail version, have you disabled UAC for the M2TW folder before installing TATW?
If not, go to this post and apply fix #3. UAC and virtual store
Unfortunately you will have to uninstall TATW before installing it again and be sure to delete the files in the virtual store folder also.
    (default path = C:\Users\[User name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods)
The AppData foler may be a hidden folder, if you cannot find it enable the viewing of hidden folders and files using Control Panel.
    3. Reinstall. (v3.1 patch is not required if you are installing v3.2. TATW)

If it still will not work, then disable daylight savings time and try again.

Yep, so many problems caused by this blasted UAC.

@Markey77: Let us know if this fixes your problem or if you're still having trouble.

    To answer your questions:

    1. I have a retail since I downloaded it from Amazon.
    2. Yes, I have the kingdoms expansion. I got the gold edition from Amazon, which includes that.
    3. Windows XP.
    4. The Baron Samedi.

I have Win XP, which means I don't have the UAC, right? Does that mean I can't do what you said?

    @Markey77

Will TATW play without the Baron Samedi submod? If so then this question should be asked in that forum.

Several other users have reported problems with the Amazon version not supporting mods. By 'retail version' I meant the CD version, i.e. physical copy, as opposed to electronic download via Steam etc.
Unfortunately, I am unaware of any solutions for the Amazon version at this time.

You are correct in that with XP you do not have to disable UAC, try deleting the geography files and turning off daylight savings time.

The game works fine without Baron Samedi. I have the bugfixer for Baron Samedi installed, so I figured that wasn't the problem. I guess it is. Thanks for your help!

    Hello!

You can not delete or uninstall just Baron's files, there is no Uninstaller for it. You need to delete whole folder where Baron's submod is installed ( Third_Age_3 folder).

Hi there and welcome to TWC Forums!

Go here and follow the steps:
    1. edit security, unhide hidden folders, check Virtual Store for M2TW folder and delete it,

    2. uninstall TATW, delete manually Third_Age_3 folder in your ..M2TW/mods folder,

    3. install TATW following Installation pictures.

    4. For battle crashes disable daylight saving settings ( you already did that.. )

    Good luck!

Hi there and welcome to TWC Forums!

    Use these steps here.

Be sure to follow the pictures in the provided link, and, edit the security for your m2tw folder, everything is shown how to do it there.

    Good luck!

Excuse me, i love TATW, but when i tried to play on MOS ( i was choosing a faction for single-player) it took me back to the menu and wouldn't let me choose campaign. Custom battles work ok, but that is my only problem. Can anyone here help me?

A bit late.. But in case anyone else has the same problem (this was the first result on google):

    - Disable UAC
    - Reinstall MOS 1.6.1 patch (Only the small one needed, no need to reinstall everything).
    - Go kill some orcs

Ask for help in the MOS thread. This sounds like a problem with virtual store (UAC). Running their cleaner application should fix it.
