Default Fielding a larger army than me?

After playing multiplayer for a long time in Shogun 2 and FOTS, I've noticed people have bigger armies than me when the price is low. I usually have about six units while they have about twelve and they're using the same unit classes as me. Now the question is, why is that? Is there some sort of ancient secret to getting these large armies in low?

As you gain levels you general becomes more expensive up to a maximum of 1800 koku at level 10. So that means in a 5k battle you have 3200 koku to spend while a level 0 would have the full 5k.

Dont overspend on your veterans. Some units are already cost-efficient at 4 chevs sometimes 2 chevs. In FoTS it is generally good for a new player to only vet up the marines to level 5 for 150 range etc. Also some palyers field Vanilla vets to incerase their numbers.

Depends how you battle. I used four yari cavalry in 4 chevrons to make way for primary infantry army. I used level 9 artillery for my battles. In my battles even in huge funds, I was vastly outnumbered by 3-6 units and won against all odds. I bring force of 14 units in the battlefield.
