The Autumn Festival and Ball

The Autumn Festival and Ball, 299 AL

With the coming Winter next year, the King decides to have a massive Autumn Festival and Ball in King's Landing. Messages are sent to all great and minor houses, those of great reputation and those of minor ability, to come forth to the capital for this grand event. Maegor wanted everyone to enjoy this season before the Winter arrived, for it would be unknown how long this Winter would last. The King had many plans for this event, including a couple important announcements. The servants worked day and night to make this festival and ball perfect. Many great musicians and composers came forth, the best entertainment in the land was hired and the finest cooks in Westeros were brought to King's Landing to prepare dishes of amazing quality.

Maegor sat at the long table at the end of the hallway, sitting at the center of it. The left seat reserved for the King's Hand and the right seat...was left for a special guest, Melisa Adarys. Those of the Council and the great lords of the land would be seated on the left and right side of the King. The Kingsguard would be stationed behind and in front of the table to act as the main security of the event.

Harald is seated at the table of the King as he was a part of the Small Council. His family was given a rather close proximity to Maegor and the servants attended them.

Ser Baelor Hightower arrives as the representative of his house. Also attending are his wife, Rhonda Rowan, and his son Keran, serving as squire to Elbert Arryn. Baelor is also looking after his much younger sister Madelen at the event.

Keran obediently hurries towards Elbert. The short, burly lad has a soft, kind face marked with a few spots, signs of his early attempts at shaving. He stands beside Elbert and looks at him nervously. He quickly spots his aunt, Alynna, sat next to Elbert, and he appears to relax slightly. "Ser?"

Keran looked hesitantly towards his father. Baelor smiles and nods at Keran. "It would be an honour, Ser." Keran takes his seat next to Elbert.

The Reynes attend the festival in full, the men in their best doublets and tunics, and the women with their red or red-gold hair down, garbed in plush velvets and fine silks.

Keran was glad that such a question had been asked - this was a topic he could easily speak about, and calm his nerves. "We had a good weapon's master at the Hightower, Ser, a Lysian, and he taught me well enough. My father would sometimes teach me too, but he rarely had the time, with all his duties. I'm good with a sword, and better with a bow. But Horak was never good with horses..." He stumbles over his words briefly. "The weapons master was called Horak, Ser. So I'm not a very good rider or jouster. But my grandfather is a great patron of the Citadel, and I had lessons in battle tactics every week. Sometimes The Archmaester of warcraft, Nymos, would take my lessons." He pauses, before finishing with pride in his voice. "My father says I will be the next Randyll Tarly."

"I'm sure you will, Keran." Elbert deeps a parchment out of his pocket. "I made a training schedule for you. You shall train with me every day, to hone your skills with sword and horse. Tell me, do you prefer one-handers or those big greatswords?"

"So i see. I will be training you on blocking and thrusting then, the first weeks. Also, you will ride every day for at least one hour, preferebly at a target." Elbert was content the lad didn't protest.

Lord Aenys Velaryon, his family, and high ranking knights or retainers arrive at the Festival in the finest garb they have. Melisa walks alongside her uncle, with her hair appearing to be dyed silver, and wearing some dress made in one of the Free Cities with some design going up it on one side.

Goldcloaks, who were a part of the security detail, confiscate any weapons for the duration of the event. When Ser Travers appears, two Goldcloaks approach him and request that he hands over Dawn. Though the King would allow private entourages, overall security was to be handled by the Goldcloaks and the Kingsguard,
