Default Mod problems - was referred to come here.

Summary: I downloaded Call of Warhammer mod, installed it fine using Squid's kingdoms launcher app. The problem is, I can play the mod for a day, and then in the following day it ceases to work completely. The only solution i've had is to reinstall the mod completely to have it work for another day.

I posted on Gigantus' thread for the mod and he was very helpful and patient, and after providing him with the logs he came to the conclusion that:

    Gigantus:
Your game crashes during the initial check for files, right after it has process the animation files. I can only take a wild guess that steam might have done something fancy. Make a back up of your save game (just in case) and then install everything again (main, patch, fixes) and then give it another try.

As a more permanent solution, do you think installing a hard copy MTW gold and the mod will be more stable?

    Gigantus:
Before going through that, maybe first give it a shot with the technical guys. I don't have steam myself so my knowledge is limited. Irishron or one of the guys here may be able to shed light on this.
    ....

I can provide the logs again if needed. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.

I also have to re-install MTW2 to get the mod to work or it keeps crashing on start up.

The trouble is I know nothing of the mod but the intro movie looks great.

If the problem is corrupted saves, nothing new to Total War as far back as Medieval One for me.

The game should work the same in spite of Steam.

    No multitasking.
Shut down all background programs the game does not need including autoupdaters like Wndows Update.
Use Game Booster fir this if you feel the need.

If this is not it, post the logs.

Make sure your Steam is set to not auto-update M2TW Kingdoms. I have heard of others having this problem where Steam overwrites the mod files with vanilla files.

The first time I have of it but StealthFox could be right.

There is nothing in the log to say why.

The mod decides when it wants to work. Was working fine yesterday even though I did not change anything, and this morning it crashes to desktop again with an error when I load.
    This is frustrating..

Any chance we could get the specific error you're getting when it crashes back to desktop? If it's distinctive then we can provide more help. Thanks in advance!

Also I put steam to do not update MTW, it doesn't seem to help.

Does it do it if you disable Microsoft Lifechat?

Have you tried updating the motherboard drivers?

As far as i'm aware, Microsoft Lifechat is my headset and nothing more.

I'll try updating the drivers though. Cheers for the help, will attempt this tomorrow, and will update the situation after i've had some sleep.

My motherboard cannot be updated any further, so that is not the problem.

Like it or not, this is what I see, you have too much going on in the background including your headset. 2gb of ram is not much especially when I've seen kingdoms'exe usu 700mb by itself just doing an End Turm and well over a gig making hodres for Mongols.

I've never had any problems with kingdoms or Third age though. Thank you for all your help.

CoW is a whole different animal and not knowing how much got imported does not help. If those texures are like the ones for vanilla Cities and castles, they are huge in the memory department.

Just an update, if you're interested. A pattern keeps forming of which I can't play my game during the day (closing down on launch with the same error), then in the evening when I try it again, it loads normally and I can play the mod as if it had no problems what so ever. Once it works, it keeps working until I restart my computer. It just seems to work when my pc has been on for several hours and I can't seem to see what has changed to allow it to work..

Are you logged into Steam all the time? It sounds like it could be your internet provider not doing you any favors during the day, espeially if they have a large business clientel to take care of first.

I'd just add this - have you investigated possible heat problems with that system?
