    Default Not playing as Administrator?

Playing RTW for 3+ years now, I have noticed that RTW will corrupt my computer files if I play long enough. As you might have already guessed, I have reinstalled RTW several times already. Each time, there will not be any problems for several months. But then, there would be crashes during gameplay that become more and more frequent, and my computer begins acting weird generally speaking. I would then uninstall and reinstall RTW, and the cycle would continue.

Sometimes, I would use System Restore before reinstalling because my computer was acting too weird.

Now, I have uninstalled RTW again, and before reinstalling I decided to ask you guys some questions. Would playing in the Regular Account help things out? Would disabling Autosave help out? I used Windows Vista.

BTW, yes, I rebooted the computer almost every time after gameplay, so forgetting to reboot is not the problem. I also defrag my Hard drive once per month, so this is not the problem as well.

With Vista I'd make sure that the User Account Control (UAC) is turned off and you don't install into either of the program files folders (on the 64 bit version there is a second one: "c:\program files (x86)").

Running as Admin should make no difference. I always run as an Admin as I'm the only one using my PC.

I'd suggest turning off Autosave in-game. There is a bug in the routine which can mean that the save file is corrupted and if you've only got an Autosave and no manual saves you're in trouble and have lost that game. Also don't use Quicksave as it uses the same routine. Always manually save!

I always used Autosave before someone advised that it can cause problems. After all- better to be safe than sorry.

What's the reason for this, and how do it I do it?

Sorry for not getting back sooner to you.

    1) Just create a new folder. Some people create one called "c:\games" or anything else. During the install process you should have the option to decide where the game is installed to.

    2) Autosave is turned off in the preferences.txt file which is in the preferences folder inside your main game folder (where the exes are).

    Look for the entry with

    AUTO_SAVE:FALSE
