WTW2 in Kingdoms won't start

I decided to reinstall my MTW2 and Kingdoms expansion. I find I can play the expansions of Britannia and The America's, etc, but when I choose to play MTW2 I just get a screen with an egg timer and have to hit the reset button on my PC to restart the machine!

I have installed the 1.5 patch and still have the same problem. I don't get how the expansions can all work and yet the original MTW2 won't! I have tried starting from medieval2.exe and kingdoms.exe, I have tried no cd patches, I have reinstalled, and it stays the same!

Any idea's folks?

The 1.5 patch has nothing to do with vanilla. Vanilla only goes through 1.3.

Have you installed any mods like Retrofit?

I said I installed Kingdoms as well as MTW2. MTW2 goes to 1.03, Kingdoms goes to 1.5, I tried both before and after. I tried MTW2 without the Kingdoms expansion and it was the same.

Bad install, then, would be be my best educated guess.

Kingdoms and the 1.5 patch have zero to do with Medieval2 vanilla.

Vista/Win7, install them logged in as Administrator and UAC disabled?

How about Crusades and Teutonic?

Running XP with 4gb ram and 4850 1gb card. I didn't explain clearly,sorry. I had to uninstall Kingdoms and MTW2 to reinstall MTW2 without Kingdoms. as I wasn't sure what Kingdom files were installed. So I have tried a clean MTW2 two times, first time tried alone, didn't work. Added Kingdoms, didn't work, added 1.5, didn't work. So uninitialised everything and reinstalled MTW2 alone tried 1.00, 1.02 and 1.03 and all the same result with the egg-timer.

All very strange, so will just reinstall RTW and play that instead! I will come back to MTW2 at another time.

One last suggestion before you give up. (hope I'm not too late) There are several 1.5 patches, different for gold edition and various language versions. Are you sure you downloaded the correct 1.5 patch that corresponds to your edition?

I have the UK edition of MTW2 and Kingdoms and installed up to 1.03 using EU versions, then Kingdoms which updated it to 1.04 then I installed the EU 1.05. That, I believe is the correct way. I haven't uninstalled yet, as I am going to try an earlier ATI graphic driver and see it that does anything.

If you haven't already, take a look at this thread. You don't have the gold edition do you? There is a different patch for gold and non-gold edition. Looks like there is a 1.5 EU patch and a 1.5 UK Gold edition patch. I guess if you don't have the gold edition, then the EU 1.5 patch you have should be the correct one. Hopefully you can get it working. Maybe the old ATI graphic driver will do the trick.

Thanks for the help. You're a Goodun'! I will let you know if I get it going, but as i say, the Moderator can close this thread if they want, as I seem one of about three people with this problem!
