    Default Bluescreen on startup

    Hello there!
A while ago I decided to update my graphic card driver because I had some problems with several games, e.g. R:TW, Titan Quest and Battle Realms. However, all new drivers I tried out only caused trouble, they were constantly crashing, restarting and caused one bluescreen after another, so I switched back to my old driver.
The crashes are gone but suddenly I can't start Medieval 2 anymore. Neither vanilla, nor mods work anymore. Every time I try to start a game I get the bluescreen "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION".
I've looked everywhere but couldn't find anyone with a similar problem, so has anyone a clue what causes these bluescreens? Quick help would be much appreciated, I would very much like to try TATW 3.2.

Btw, I use a Packard Bell EasyNote TJ65 and before switching drivers I've never had trouble with this game.
I've reinstalled the whole game several times, but to no avail.

Hmm, how are you updating your drivers? Are you using the windows device manager or downloading from a website? You might try going to Control Panel>Device Manager>Display Adapters and might try both updating and rolling back drivers. Also, maybe an old line in the registry... you might try running CCleaner.

Also, since you're problem isn't Third Age specific and you're having problem with vanilla M2TW, I'm moving your thread to the M2TW Technical Help forum.

I have a Geforce GT240M and the drivers that caused constant trouble were downloaded from the NVIDIA homepage (yes, they were compatible with my graphic card, the device manager recommended them, too). When I was finally fed up with the crashes I downloaded the recommended driver from the Packard Bell homepage, which happened to be my old one. Now everything is as it was before (including the problems with the mentioned games), just this problem with Medieval 2.
I've run CCleaner several times, with no result.

Sorry about the wrong forum, i didn't find the technical help for the vanillla game and figured I'd let the admins do the job.

Edit: I just googled the sequence and the only result was that I should download and run SmartPCFixer, which I'm doing right now. I hope it helps...

i have seen this before.. i am sure it is memory related and not drivers. Try typing in the whole number sequence from the memory dump into google you will find a lot of information.

Believeing the Device Manager on someting like this is not a good idea. Windows Update is trying to get me to install 286 drivers and the last WHQL ones are 296.

The best move if your computer came with a backup disc, use it, or a restore partition.

I'll bet they'll want your credit card money before even running a scan.

aswsp.exe - Possible bug within Avast. Do you have the Avast AV suite installed on that system?

Nope, no backup disc and yes, they indeed want my money.
PoleCat, yes I do use avast, never considered that to be the problem. I always run it with the gaming mode turned on though.
Do you think updating avast will solve the problem?

Edit: According to this link http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=99498.0 I actually need to remove avast and downgrade to a previous version, I'll give that a try.

Never trust those sites that say they have the magic bullet fix for your problem. Ten times out of nine it's a scam. Glad it worked out. Good luck!
