    Icon4 Installation Problems

Hey, new member here. Reason I join is I've just bought the game, and I went to install it after downloading it from the SEGA website, but it came up with this dialog box (hopefully attached if I've done it right) and I'm not really sure what to do next.

Any advice would be preferable in layman's terms, as I'm not too great with PCs. Thanks.

you probably also need to know that it's the Gold version I bought, but I can't seem to work out how to edit my first post

Sega the last I checked does not do its own downloads. Who did you download it from? A link would bw helpful.

Assuming Vista or Win 7, log in as Administrator, run the download as Administrator, with the UAC disabled.

A quick look at the file name shows the file that is corrupt is a DirectX 9 .cab file that seems to be the culprit. Try to "Ignore" that error message, complete the install and then download the needed files from here. Hopefully this will get you around the arcane installation process for M2 downloads. Good luck!

I tried this and I got a load of other dialog boxes afterwards telling me similar things but for different files, so I've just emailed SEGA support team.

    Thanks anyway

they do, I went here - http://www.sega.com/games/medieval-i...-gold-edition/ and bought through this, and I used the download program they sent me in the confirmation email (I can screen print the relevant parts of the email if it'll help)

and PoleCat, it won't let me ignore, it just keeps coming up with that same dialog every time I click anything other than abort - should I download that first then try?

scratch that - I kept ignoring it and it pushed through, downloaded the file and installed beforehand (and can somebody show me how to edit posts please?)

You may get to play it, maybe not.

Win 7, did you install the 32bit version or the 64bit version?

If 64bit, reinstall the 32bit. If, 32bit, install these. http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.c....do?service=EU 64bit is not supported by your laptop.

Dxidag, look at the bottom of that box and click the "save all info" button, an d post the full text file it generates here.

it was the 32bit, I'm pretty sure, a guy at the local computer shop installed it for us cos it was in for repairs anyway so I can't be certain but if it doesn't support 64bit then I doubt he'll have tried that

which drivers do I need to be downloading in particular? perhaps a good time to point out I'm a bit naff with the more technical side of using computers..

http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic...-X-Diagnostics for posting a complete dxdiag.

Make the page I kinked look like the left pic and the next page look like the right pic, and install everything listed. We'll find out a lot fast.

I don't believe you are playing long if at all when you do get the game installed.

    1. See if you can change the graphics memory in BIOS. The game specs say 128mb dedicated and the dxdiag says zero. Shared memory 90% of the time means nothing to CA.
    2. The 945 chipset is not really made for this so plan on low settings.
    3. Disable the UAC. http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to...-in-windows-7/ Odds are the reason you can't do much on your computer. You have to be logged in as Administrator to do tis or all else is futile.
    4. Run this. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ils.aspx?id=35
    5. Run Windows Update manually and install all software options starting with Service Pack 1. You will be running it more than a few times to play catch up.

Good luck. I hope it works for you.

thanks, I'll let you know how it works out for me - I expect to hear from SEGA over the next two days too so if your solution doesn't work they may be able to do something for me

Still absolutely nothing from SEGA - I found a way around my problem though. On the support part of the site through my account it told me to delete the downloaded files and start again. Is there any way I can stop my computer from locking so that the download can continue without needing my supervision (i.e. wiggling the mouse pad every so often)?

From the Start button go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options. Disable sleep mode. Good luck!

Thanks PoleCat. Took me three days last time so could be a while before I update you.

You wouldn't happen to have any ideas to stop overheating would you?

For overheating, one player invested in a $25 Belkin cooling pad. The thread's in here somewhere.

My problems started with the launcher not working, i tried switching the names of the launcher and the medieval2 application around which didn't work, what did work was the launcher that you can get on here somewhere. However, I can only play M2 whilst online with steam, oh yeah i bought the game through steam, maybe thats my mistake, anyway, when i go offline from steam i can't play game. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
