    Default Failed BIOS Flash

I flashed the BIOS to v1010 on an ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard, and everything was fine until it was finished and I was prompted to press F1: I pressed F1 and nothing happened, so I pressed it again, and again, and again to no avail (I am using a USB keyboard). So I rebooted, and now it reads:

    Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0
Copyright (c) 2000, Award Software, Inc.

    BIOS ROM checksum error

    Detecting floppy drive A media...

When I insert the floppy disk containing the old Award FlashBIOS ROM and AwdFlash BIOS update Utility, the disk spins and spins and spins but nothing happens. Does anyone know how to repair this without buying a new BIOS ROM chip?

When you attempted to flash the BIOS were you ever prompted to make a back up of your old BIOS? Did you save anything to disk?

Otherwise you might try removing the CMOS battery for a healthy hour, replace it and then try again. I can't say it will help but at this point it can't hurt....

EDIT: Also, are you sure you have basic video on that BIOS boot sector? Maybe the disk is spinning and providing video output but you can't see it?

I was prompted to backup, and I did; and I have the original on HDD as well.

I have tried removing the battery.

I don't know if I have basic video or not, but I can see the prompt I posted above. I know what a floppy sounds like when it's reading and when it's just spinning, and the floppy is just spinning.

Got it. As I'm pressed for time and the Forums are as slow as molasses today all can offer is this - http://www.asus.com/999/html/events/mb/ezflash.htm

Try using this to re-flash to the older BIOS using your saved copy and see if you can get it up and limping along. Good luck!

Looking back - are you sure your floppy is still functional? If it's just spinning then that may be a hardware fault. Hard to tell from here. Good luck!

Cables not plugged in all the way, too.

I've had floppies spin from the power cable but zero from the data cable either not all the way in or plugged in wrong. I've done both in any combination possible.

I'll check both pieces of advice. Thank you for your assistance.
