Default FMs still Tribunus Militi after reforms.

Hi, this is more of a question than a technical issue, so I decided to ask it here: when new FMs come of age they are not legatus legionis but tribunus militi (forgive my spelling:tongue). However, recruited generals are L L, so is this a bug or will it correct itself later in the game?

As far as I can tell, all the other reform stuff happened correctly and I checked the console to see if the script was still imputing commands from the script and it was so I don't think something weird happened to that.

    Thanks in advance,
    King Agamemnon of Mycenae

edit: this is not a trait issue, but the unit itself.

As I understand it, the tribunes are lower in rank, since there were six assigned to each legion. The legatus legionis was a legion's commander, or something like that ... Would make sense that the FM have higher ranks from the beginning on.

I think I forgot to specify this is not a trait, but the "unit" that comprises the general's bodyguard. You are right about legatus legionis being higher ranked and all that, I am just having problems with the actual unit.

    Have you tried retraining it?

The game won't let me retrain any of my family members because they are technically "tribunus militi" which is no longer recruitable.

Hi, sorry for double posting, but I would really like to hear from a dev or someone else to find out of this is normal/fixable or if I should restart my campaign.

    Thanks in advance

We are, and have been working a lot on the Roman Military ranks and some things that were not working right....this is one of them.

In the Republic, the 'Tribunus Militi' was in fact the commander of the Legion (the senior one, anyway). This rank is\was supposed to change to Legatus or Legatus Legionis after the Marian Reforms......but we found there was no trigger to do this, it had just slipped through the cracks, so to speak.

There have been a number of other issues we've been trying to fix as well to get this whole rank structure to work right. It will be much better when Patch2.60 is released. Still not perfect, perhaps, but better. We're going to keep working on it even after release of the next patch and fine tune the whole thing (both campaigns).

Thanks for your reply dvk, I think I mentioned this in the first post, but my problem isn't the leadership trait Tribunus Militi, it's the generals bodyguard unit. (As in the light colored horsed instead of the black ones.) To my knowledge, new FMs were are supposed to be the legatus legionis unit, not the trubunus militi unit (not trait). Perhaps I misunderstood you, but it sounded like you thought it was a problem with the leadership/trait system.

It's actually about the "roman armoured general" unit in the export_descr_units.txt file needing the attribute "general_unit_upgrade" after the "power_charge" attribute, with a comma in between them. You can do this yourself if you like - you'll then need to delete map.rwm using the button in the launcher to make the game start using those changes.

Does this also work with the actual general? In my experience, the "post-marian roman general" in the launcher does not change the actual general unit, only his bodyguards. I know because in my very first rs2 campaign I DID have the graphical upgraded general with the white plume helmet etc.

If not, could someone tell me how to manually upgrade the general to the post-marian one? I hate having awesome praetorian guard with the old republican greek-like general.

    Thanks in advace

Yeah I had same issue and did as you said and it worked. It doesn't change the already existing generals bodyguards but whenever someone comes of age they are now legatus instead of the tribunes.
