Default Cities and castles (remove me if repeat)

Hi all--I've looked around the forums and haven't found an answer to this question, but apologies if it's been asked before. I just installed TATW and I'm trying to figure out the tech tree. I've been seeing here and there that there are game events allowing certain units to be built in certain places. I'm basically just wondering what the difference is between cities and castles. I know you can't convert from one to the other, but it appears that you can train all your units at both. Is this true? Can you also build every building at either a city or a castle?

No, only cities can build markets, but castles give experience bonuses to units.

Got it--other than that, can cities recruit all of the same units eventually? I recognize it might take them a little longer, but can I get, for instance, a Dale Swordmaster at a castle AND a city? Or a Dunedain Ranger, or Battle Ready Dunedain?

And units? Can I get all the same units from both cities and castles?

You can't get all units at all cities and castles. Some castles give unique units that other castles/cities don't have. Some cities give unique units that other castles/cities don't have. If you want to see what units you can get at which castle/city, just go to a castle/city press the building scroll and look at the available barracks. Right click (I think that's the default) on the highest available barracks. You can see all of the units there.

Some cities are not capable of being upgraded to the highest level. Some castles are not able of being upgraded to the highest level. For instance no Gondor city (except maybe Osgiliath but I'm not sure) can be upgraded to the level that Minas Tirith starts out as.

Almost all castles and cities can produce the basic units (militia, scouts, etc) and the medium units when upgraded.

Yes, except special units like Swan Knights that can be built only in Dol Amroth, etc.

PS, I think it is best if the moderators just merge the thread if appropriate. Removing you seems a bit drastic, you have done nothing to us, and a good assassin is expensive ;-)

I could not help that, no mocking intended, merely jesting a bit.

Great! Thanks for all the help everyone. I really like it this way--always thought the "you can only train your good units at economically useless castles" was a bad/unrealistic model. This is good.

I was talking about the thread not me the poster! Haha -- I wouldn't want to have to "removed" and increase the dread of the board...
