Default Who Should Sit the Iron Throne? (ADWD spoiler)

Since Robert's Rebellion, there have been quite a few people who have aspired to hold the Throne. Assuming that Westeros hasn't totally fractured and there is still an Iron Throne by the end of the series, who should be/would have been the best one to hold it?

Though they never specifically had ambitions to rule from King's Landing, I've included Robb and Balon to make it interesting.

    Me.

That'd be much better if I was one of the various Stannis's lurking on this forum.

PS-Turin, I'd rep you but once again, I gotta spread it around.

Have you by any chance read the latest book? Things really do change for Stannis and if it goes the way I think it will he will have a good chance at victory.

I have to go with Stannis, I feel so sorry for him, he is the rightful heir of Robert Baratheon, he has always been a good brother, he is the only good commander left in Westeros and out of all the candidates he will make the best king. He would not be the most loved king but he would make a just and honest king.

I will now list reasons why the others should not be king.

    Robert Baratheon:
We had him as a king and the realm ended up 6 million in debt while he ed, drank, ate and hunted himself to death, even he admitted at the end that he should not have been king.

    Joffrey Baratheon:
The twisted bastard had his guard rip Sansa's dress off and hit her with swords. He may not have ended up as bad as The Mad King but he would never have been a good king and he would only have gotten worse.

    Tommen Baratheon:
Lets face it people, he is a giant tool and voting for him is really a vote for whomever controls him.

    Renly Baratheon:
He definitely has good qualities, unfortunately he was an arrogant pompous fool who ended up obsessed with power. He spent the entire time moving north making tourneys and ignoring his wife who he really should have been bedding if only to get an heir and solidify his alliance with the Tyrells.

    Danaerys Targaryen:
A bit too much of a child if you ask me, she keeps up these delusions of saving everyone and in the end I do not think she will be tough enough to hold the throne. When you think about it what has she done right that has not been done without the help of dragons?

    Viserys Targaryen:
A bit too much like his father, the only difference being that his father steadily went insane while Viserys starts insane.

    Aegon Targaryen:
Could make a good king, has the training, inteligence and knows that the crown is not something he is entitled to but something he has to earn. He is such a good candidate that there must be something horribly wrong with him though.

    Euron Greyjoy:
Definitely has the fear factor but can you see people liking him, or respecting him, or even wanting to be close to him? As far as I am concerned all the Greyjoys are too concernned with raiding and pillaging and that does not bode well for a king.

    Robb Stark:
Like Aegon he destroyed everything just for the sake of love, A king must be willing to put aside all feelings for the good of the realm and he can not do that.

    Balon Greyjoy:
He showed his worth during both rebellions, he failed the first time and only a madman (or an ironborn) would have believed he would win the second one. A king who constantly fights a lost cause to bring back a way of life that stopped working long ago is not a good king.

    Darkhorse candidate:
I can not think of a single one that has the love/respect of the people, the noble parentage and the skills to be a king. Some might say that Jon Stark or Petyr Baelish would come close but if a lowborn like Petyr Baelish could be king then everyone will start thinking they should be king and after he dies you could end up with hundreds of claims. As for Jon Snow, he could never play the game for his honour gets in the way a bit too much.

I agree with just about all of your characterizations of the different contenders. However, here you're thinking of Rhaegar- "Aegon" is Vary and Illyrio's little secret of questionable identity who just landed in the Stormlands.

I cant find one spot to disagree on here... im an Aegon hopeful but alas grrm will kill him or reveal something to break his claim. Sad too.

Stannis & Joffrey would be my two top Just Leaders. I'm fairly sure Joffrey nor stannis would allow the kings landing back stabbing and crap like that.

    One Word: WHAT?????!!!!!

By the way, Stannis always was a good brother, he killed Renly when Renly tried to take what was rightfully his. He always did what Robert told him to, even though Robert screwed him over and Renly was gonna screw him again. I'd love to see Stannis on the throne. He's Robert's heir and he deserves what is his. Plus, he was the only King to actually try to help on the wall.

I have a lot of faith in this new Targaryen, because honestly I don't think there really is anyone else. And even if he isn't a great leader, I think that Conington will be able to stabilize the realm enough to prevent further bloodshed before he drops. I like Dany, but she's really failing in Mereen, and she is far to much of a dreamer to rule without someone more realistic to help balance her out. (Jon Snow and Dany! King and Queen of Westeros. My ultimate dream) Stannis is to much of a self-righteous tool to be a good leader, he would bring justice, but he would just destablize the kingdom even more. So at this point after ADWD, I'm supporting Aegon! =)

You know, I used to consider the idea that from a pragmatic point of view, Joffrey may not have been a terrible king for Westeros to have for the oncoming crises, if only for the fact that it meant Tywin Lannister, one of the most capable rulers in the realm, would be in a position of power. Joffrey was cruel but his cruelty seemed to be limited to those close to him, so while it would have been terrible for Sansa, as twisted as he was it might not have affected the realm as a whole. However, I stopped entertaining this idea during ASOS where it became clear that Joffrey had no interest in learning how to be a king and scoffed at the attempts of others to teach him. It was a hilarious moment when he started to rebel against Tywin, accusing him of hiding under Casterly Rock during the Rebellion, but it also showed that Joffrey being a little er behind the scenes while letting Tywin truly run the kingdom wouldn't have worked. Thanks in part to being raised by Cersei, Joffrey was cruel, ambitious, proud and apathetic, and also had a confused admiration for an idealized version of his "father" Robert's recklessness and rage. Not a good combination.

Aegon... Mostly because of my diehard Targaryen fanaticism, but I also believe he'd be the best king over all the rest.

I think the Others should just kill everyone and install a new frozen kingdom in Westeros hehe. Out of the list though.....Joffrey and Stannis. Joffrey because he is funny and Stannis because he likes to grind his teeth and hang traitors which is an admirable quality in a ruler.

Stannis. He has the rightful claim, and he is a fitting king for reasons some above me have already stated. However I wonder how he would handle the politics because I can imagine all the enemies plotting to oust him from the throne.

Second, Danaerys; her dragons will have most of Westeros bending the knee; IF she can first get to Westeros w/ fully grown dragons or at least near-full grown. It can very well be another landing just like Aegon the Conquerors. This is beside the fact that winter is coming, though. I wonder how that will play into it.

I'm not so deep into the books as to where younger Aegon has come in, so I should withhold my opinion on him

if you voted for any of these you need to read up on history and kingdoms this is not an insult but merely a statement. You have no concept on what is required to run a kingdom and should never have entered this thread.

Remember that this thread is not who you want to rule it is who would be the most able king/queen.

Robb Stark: Really, someone out there thinks this idiot is fit to be king of Westeros? he ed up with just The North and the Riverlands, what makes him great at ruling the rest?

Euron Greyjoy: Come on, can you even survive the amount of drugs required to believe he is fit to rule? I think the human body would die of an overdose before you got halfway there.

Danaerys Targaryen: Great queen here, she did such a great ing job in Mereen, her only quality and I do mean only quality is her dragons. Give her dragons to a whore and we get the same result only with less .

Joffrey Baratheon: Worst candidate there, anyone who has read the books, watched the series or even seen a wiki page on him would never delude themselves into thinking he can rule a potty let alone a kingdom.

As you can see I am in a mood at the moment, mainly because of the amount of stupidity that is around.

Poor Renly, he could do a better job than Dany, Joff or Robb,
Though Stannis is the better one,
With an Iron Fist he'll rule over Westeros!
