I've played them on VH/VH and my advice is to spam Round Shield Cav in the early days. Work towards pumping out Bull Warriors. Don't bother building through the barracks tree and destroy any in settlements you take because you won't need them. The only decent infantry unit you'll get from a barracks is the Scutarii which become available at 6000 popp which is the same as Bull Warriors. Your missile selection is rubbish, so recruit the Balearic Mercenaries whenever you can. Push Carthage out early with all your troops. Be prepared for the Julii to arrive by boat. If you can invade and get a foothold in Italy before they set sail they'll probably never send any boats. Build lots of ports in order to afford the Bull Warriors. Taking the Roman and Carthaginian cities will allow you to build the temples required for Bull Warriors straight away. Bull Warriors will munch through anything Carthage or Gaul will throw at you in the early game, so once you've got a few, go take their lands for cheap.
Thanks! Thats a big help, what about late game? Whats the survival rate for that?
There is only one thing that can be said to help you in the late game. There is no late game, if you make it there you are dead and don't have a chance.
Against the AI anything is possible
Against the 'civilised' factions your troops will get eaten late game, so rushing is a must with spain.

^ What a way to go
Not really, i have had a lot of fun using guerilla tactics against superior tech, it makes it more interesting where you have to defeat superior teched enemies instead of opposite.
S'all right. I beat on VH/VH, and i'm an exceedingly slow campaigner. Huge tech is nigh irrelevant... the ai is retarded. They try to balance their armis, which leavs them susceptable to specialised-stacks. My advice, however, is contrary to the Genius's.
Early game, recruit dogs to the spam-mix-up. Battlemap everything geurilla-style with dogs, to build up more money faster.
Keep the barracks for scutarii. Bull warriors take too long to recruit, and will never get the bonus from the temple mentioned below.
There is a temple the spamish can build, which adds several experience to any recruited unit in the settlement. Build that, and add in the weaponsmith. That will give any unit recruited in that settlement a minimum of+5/+5, which puts even scutari on level for playing against late-game armies, and long-sheild cavalry a match for most.
So far as how to play late game to survive.. have you ever played as the rebels? Or Numidia? Or nearly any smaller faction? The concept is the same, however you play. The quality of the unit matters little if you can battlemap them successfully. Foir me, that means geurilla warfare in the field, and powerful defending seiges where i take advantage of the settlement in a huge way. Horse-spam armies can take apart armies of considerably more powerful units with less effort, and any infantry is good defending a settlement.
With the exception of the bulls, the spanish units are cheap to recruit, and cheap to mantain, so that means you can afford a lot of them.
I would also take a monopoly on sea trade, but then again, i do that nomatter what faction i play as. And the spanish docount as a barbaric faction, and so make sure you watch your population growth.

I recommend spamming cavalry and taking over Gauls city in Spain and focus on taking Africa but be aware that Spain's main troops aren't suited to africia but just take it from the income and slosh work on Europe, keep a large army in Oscar to combat Gaul, Juili and britania who will attack you, don't rely on Iberian infantary and as your man said, scuatairi are your best all round infantry
God I hate spell check but I think you can understand most of that yeah?
Willowran always has the most interesting strategies(:

My advice to you, which happens to be similar to Genius, is to spam Round Shield Cavalry. They have a low upkeep cost, and spamming them can literally win any battle. Cavalry is ridiculously overpowered in Rome Total War. Your infantry (Iberian and Scutarii) aren't that great. Iberians are massacred in extended periods of combat, and Scutarii come during the city-phase. It's not worth it at all. When you are able to march onto Rome and take the Italian peninsula, their settlements should have hit "city", and the option to recruit Bull Warriors is opened to you. It's quite a straight forward campaign, though tedious.
Cry "Havoc!", and let slip the dogs of war.

I tried a Spanish on VH/VH and never even got 10 years into the game before quitting. I don't have the patience for those small cities because town militia suck.
