    Default Wireless Issues

So I'm not super knowledgeable on wireless network, I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on my problem. I have a Linksys E1200 Wireless-N router, which I'm using for my home network. It's capable of up to 300 Mb/s and to get higher than 54 Mb/s like I had with my old NetGear, I bought a Rosewill RNX-N180 PCI-E adapter (yeah I know it's not the greatest but it got solid 4 star reviews.)

Now here's the deal. My E1200 is sitting right next to Verizon's Fios router that they distribute. (Wireless G only.) It's a floor below, and maybe 15-20 feet away. My old card, with one antenna had no problem picking up the E1200. Now the new card, doesn't pick it up at all despite being Wireless N and having two antennae (?) I had to take my old antenna, and put it on the card in the place of the other one, and now I'm getting 5 bars and an excellent signal, according to Windows, but a measly 21Mb/s and a DL speed of under a megabyte per second. (Previously it was over 15 megabytes, download.)

    Anyone have any ideas?

Looks like the new adapter is defective, if you just bought it see if newegg will return it. Im assuming you already have all the drivers installed correctly.

Yeah, updated to the newest version. And it's fairly new.

So it wouldn't be a router setting or anything?

Not unless you set it to b/g only which wouldn't make sense. See if your router has an option to set it factory defaults.

Well this was an accidental fix as a result of a reinstall of Windows. (Got an SSD, so swapped primary drives.)

For some reason it works now, I won't complain. Does anyone now anything about antennas though? I'd like to try and boost this signal.

I think something like this should be compatible with your adapter. Rosewill has a few more like that if you look around.

That's as much as the adapter cost, lol. But it is seven more dbi than mine, not sure what that is exactly but I might give it a shot.

Could be settings issue. If you have your router setup not to broadcast its SSID, a must for any wireless network to help protect it, then if you're connecting from Windows 7 (likely Vista as well) you'll need to manually tell it what the details of your wireless network, you'll also need to check the option to connect even if the network isn't broadcasting its SSID. You also could have incorrect setting for the security you're using as well.

Nope, I double checked my router, I also tried to manually enter everything. And the Security is WPA-2 AES on both.
