Default Highgarden, Seat of the Tyrells

Margaery Tyrell describes the castle as having groves and fountains, shady courtyards, and marble colonnades. It is filled with singers, pipers, fiddlers and harpers. The stables have a fine selection of horseflesh, and there are pleasure boats to sail along the Mander.

Highgarden Castle is the seat of House Tyrell, regional capital of the Reach and heart of chivalry in the Seven Kingdoms. It lies on the Mander and there the Ocean Road meets the Roseroad, making it an important crossroads. Highgarden was once the seat of House Gardener, until Aegon the Conqueror defeated King Mern IX Gardener and his host on the Field of Fire, ending their line. When Aegon then marched his host to Highgarden, its steward, Harlen Tyrell, surrendered the castle. For this, Aegon has given him the castle and gave the House Tyrells dominion over the Reach.

    House Tyrell

House Tyrell of Highgarden is one of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms, overlords over the Reach. A large, wealthy house, its wealth is only surpassed among the Great Houses by House Lannister, and the Tyrells can field the greatest armies. Additionally, if they call the fleets of their bannermen the Redwynes, the lords of the Shield Islands, and the coastal lords, they can command a navy that equals if not surpasses the royal fleet.

    Background and History

The Tyrells trace their line of descent, through the female line, to the legendary Garth Greenhand, the first King of the Reach, in the Age of Heroes(indicating their origin among the Andal invaders thousands of years before). The Tyrells were stewards to House Gardener, the ancient ruling line of Kings of the Reach, who periodically intermarried with lower ranking houses of the Reach such as House Tyrell or House Florent. Following the defeat and death of King Mern IX, at the Field of Fire, Lord Harlen Tyrell, hereditary high steward of the Reach, surrendered Highgarden and was granted the castle along with dominion of the Reach by Aegon the Conqueror. As Wardens of the South they frequently warred with the Dornishmen, who remained independent.

When Daeron I, the Young Dragon, attempted the conquest of Dorne, the Lord of Highgarden commanded the army that invaded via Prince's Pass. After the initial victory, Daeron appointed Lord Tyrell as governor of Dorne. Lord Tyrell liked Dornish women and one night he pulled the rope that would signal for a wench to come to his bed, and a hundred scorpions fell from the canopy instead. His death sparked new revolts, and the conquest was undone in a fortnight.

During the War of the Usurper, House Tyrell stayed loyal to King Aerys II Targaryen. Lord Mace Tyrell's forces achieved victory against Robert Baratheon at the Battle of Ashford, dealing the father of the future king his only defeat of the war. Mace likes to take credit for the success, but it was the vanguard under command of Lord Randyll Tarly that put Robert to flight. Mace went on to besiege Robert's brother Leofrick at Storm's End, and indeed the Castle surrendered on the same day as the Rebel victory at the Battle of Trident, which effectively won the war for the Baratheons. As such, the Tyrells bent the knee to the posthumous Robert, King on the Iron Throne, and were accepted back as sworn vassals by the child king and his regent, Maeglor Baratheon.

OOC: BTW, you'll want to modify recent history to fall in line with the backstory for our GoT, as hammered out by the players before and after the reset You can find it here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=537230 And the War of the Usurper section that Tyrell would've been involved in here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...8#post11475188 (for one thing, your siege of Storm's End actually worked b/c a certain smuggler didn't exist to save the starving garrison )

OOC: Ah okay. How do I go about securing the stats for my characters? Also, regarding the Battle of Ashford, does Quentin Tyrell survive?

OOC: +3 at age 5, then +2 every 5 years I believe. So for example a 40 year old char would have 3 + 2(7) = 17 points to distribute.

As for Quentin Tyrell's survival, that will be entirely up to you We don't have to stick with canon characters after all.

OOC: might wanna change this part:
Robert Baratheon, king by conquest, forgave them and accepted them as sworn vassals.

Cause Robert died in the Trident. It was his son, Robert the Younger, who became King after the war. So the Tyrells would've bent their knees to him and Robert's regent, Maegor, the future successor of Robert the Younger.

A royal message arrives to the head of the family, Lord Mace Tyrell of Highgarden.

To the Honorable and Dutiful Lord Mace of House Tyrell, Highgarden and the Reach,

His Grace, Maeglor Baratheon, requests your presence in the King's Landing immediately. Please do not delay this request for an audience with the King.

OOC: I will edit if you choose a different name than Mace.
