    Default Ritterbruder for HRE Roster?

    Hiya guys,

    is ist possible to add the Ritterbruder and Dismounted Ritterbruder to the HRE roster. I am currently playing a late era campaign of SS6.1 with BftB2. I think this would make sense as Frederick II and Hermann von Salza were close allies. Does anyone know how I can make them available for the HRE without much fuss?

    Yes, its actually rather simple.

    Open your stainless steel installation and find the export_descr_buildings file.

    find the "recruit_pool "Ritterbruder" line and add hre to the list.

    tho don't you get them for Holy Roman Empire if you get offered a Teutonic order chapter house anyway? been a while since I played that faction.

    Yes, recruiting Ritterbruders as HRE is similar to recruiting Knights Templar or Knights Hospitaller for other Catholic factions. You can get the building in certain settlements. HRE can get it in Thorn, Stettin, Hamburg, Magdeburg, and Palanga.

    Well thanks, will try the adding to the pool. I received the minor chapter house but I can only recruit Halbbruder and Dismounted Halbbruder. Do not know which I can recruit after the upgrades. Where could I check that, does anyone know the file and maybe I can change it there.

    Actually there are several lines of "recruit pool_"Ritterbruder" attached to severa buildings. Do I have to add hre at every entry?

    That's probably because it's SS6.1 I guess. In SS6.4, you get Ritterbruders with the first level Teutonic chapter house and Dismounted Ritterbruders with the second level chapter house.

    It's the same file. All recruitment except for mercenaries is done through export_descr_buildings.

    Edit: But before doing that, make sure that HRE is able to recruit Ritterbruders and Dismounted Ritterbruders to begin with. I don't have the 6.1 data files so I can't check. If they can't, then you'll have a bit more work to do. You'll have to add HRE to the ownership in export_descr_units as well as copying and pasting over the battle models and unit cards.

    OK, I added the hre to the ownership in the export_descr_units for Ritterbruders and Dismounted Ritterbruders (file attached). But where do I copy the battle models and unit cards from and where to?

    Yes, if you want that building to be able to recruit Ritterbruders for HRE. Remember to make sure to first check that HRE can recruit Ritterbruders. Otherwise you'll get a CTD.

    The textures and sprites can be done in the battlemodels.modeldb file. As for the unit cards, it's within the ui folder. But I don't remember everything you have to copy over. You should wait for a response from someone who knows more about it.

    Edit: Actually I think you have to copy over two things from ui. The smaller picture from units and the bigger picture from unit_info. Copy it from Teutonic Order and paste it into HRE. But again, you should wait for confirmation from someone else because I haven't done this in a while.

    Alright, I will be patient. This seems a little harder than my skills seem to allow. I am only a player not a modder. But maybe someone can verify and explain all this to me in simple words. I have so far editet the export_descr_unit and added the Ritterbruder and Dismounted Ritterbruder to hre ownership, furthermore I addes hre to the recruitment pool Ritterbruder and Dismounted Ritterbruder in the export_descr_Building file and changed the recruitment pool of the Teutonic Knight guilds from Halbbruder and Dismounted Halbbruder to Ritterbruder and Dismounted Ritterbruder. So if I gather correctly I have to copy some files from the ui folder (which to where?) and something has to be done with the textures and sprites but I am absolutely lost there. So maybe some knows what is to do there. Thank you so far PapaRosario and Faramir D'Andunie. Further help greatly apreciated.

    I will try to explain this to you, but please make sure you backup your battle_models.modeldb file before trying this just in case anything gets messed up. Just copy and paste the file onto your desktop or into some backups folder so you can revert to it later if needed.

    You'll find the file in data/unit_models. You can open it up with Notepad. I'll just do an example for you. Let's say that I wanted Hungary to be able to recruit Druzhina. Well, the thing is that Hungary doesn't have their own sprites or textures for this particular unit, so let's just use the same sprites and textures as Poland since I'm sure you don't want to go through the headache of doing that. Here is the current entry for Druzhina in battle_models.modeldb.

    Alright I bolded some of the important stuff. The first two sections I bolded are Poland's sprites and textures for the base Druzhina with no upgrades. Then I bolded the "druzhina_ug1", which is the battle model for Druzhina when they receive an armor upgrade. Then I bolded the textures and sprites for Poland for the upgraded Druzhina.

    So now if I wanted to add in Hungary, it would look like this. I'll bold the changes that I've made from the first one.

    And I think that should do it for battle_models.modeldb. One thing I forgot to mention, see how I put a 7 before each line for Hungary? I'm not sure exactly what that number means, but it's before every line for Hungary throughout the file. So just search for whatever faction you're interested in. Since you're interested in HRE, do a Ctrl+F for " hre" and see what number keeps popping up before the hre. It should be the same throughout the file. Just use that number.

    Now for unit cards, go to data/ui. There are two files you have to copy and paste over here. The first is in unit_info. Go to the Teutonic Order folder, find the files called ritterbruder_info and dismounted_ritterbruder_info and copy and paste them over to the HRE folder. Then the second thing you have to do is located in the units folder. Go to the Teutonic Order folder, find the files called #ritterbruder and #dismounted_ritterbruder, and copy and paste them over to the HRE folder.

    And I think that should be it. Let me say once again that I am not 100% certain about this. But everything I've said is completely reversible, so if anything gets messed up, it'll be easy to revert back to how you have it now. Just make sure you backup your battle_models.modeldb file and you will be fine.

    Edit: Very late edit, but I realized that I made a mistake in this post. See that number 3 in that example code I gave which appears on a line by itself several times? That number is a count that tells the game how many faction entries there are for that unit. So if you stick in another faction entry, You have to increase the count by 1.

    Edit: Well interesting enough the battle_models.modeldb already had the entries for hre. I will now perform a test in game. May Kong be with me and wish me luck! I'll report back!

    So my friends and brothers in Kong, nearly everything seems to work. Execpt the fact, that the Ritterbruder uses a wrong horse. He is sitting on a HRE horse like the Imperial Knights. Interesting fact is, that the Halbbruder use the correct order horse with the white cloth. I looked in the battle.models.modeldb and both entries for Ritterbruder and Halbbruder have the same horse entry (1 5 horse). Where can I change the horse?

    And I could not check if the recruitment from the chapter house works. In my old safe it did not, but I presume that changes in the export_descr_building are not savegame compatible, right? And in a new game I have to wait until I get a chapter house offered. But the text in the building description of my old save was right, it mentioned the recruitable Ritterbruders and Dismounted Ritterbruders.

    So maybe some knows about the changing of the horses, though it look somehow funny to see the white knights on the colourful horses.

    Find the mount for the Halbbruder and copy and paste that over to Ritterbruder.

    Yes, export_descr_building is save game compatible. You have to hit end turn and wait for the next turn for it to show up.
